Parking at the end of the farm track, then a short stroll along, the pillar is located on the field side and is just visible through the hedge this time of the year, I stamped my way through and got the usual stings and stabbings from the nettles & brambles, when you're through, the pillar is in good condition. i saw a gap through the hedge on the way back to the car, I think this could of been a less painful way of getting into the field :)

This is our last yosm of our short stay away attending the mega event. We parked at a nearby farm shop and walked to this pillar. Unfortunately we could not find a way into the field so assume gap now well and truly filled. We did locate the pillar and I was able to touch pillar with my walking stick. I have attached a photo through the hedge and if you look carefully you should be able to see the sharp edge of the pillar. Best I could do.

Quickpenny is not a nice road to cycle along! Rather hilly and bendy with a lot of traffic going a long it. There is a pathway off it that take you to the TP. You will need to get through a smallish gap with brambles around it to get into the field. Take something to cut this back, if i was you. Ok views over Bath and towards Bristol. This will def be my last TP of the day. At least from here on, its down hill on to the cycle way and then should be flat-ish along Route 4 on the way back.

As noted previously, trig cannot easily be accessed from lane running E-W to N of pillar. Best point of access is field entrance 100m due S of trig on minor road bypassing Newton St Loe. From there a short walk along field boundaries to pillar. Previous visitor had done reasonable job of clearing brambles, ivy etc. 3 top edges badly chipped, hence the 'slightly damaged' classification. Original cap in place, but no lettering; front sight hole below soil level, other 3 open. Views N only to local hills; all other directions obscured by mature maize crop in field.

For this one, I parked by the roadside in Newton St Loe and walked to the pillar. The pillar is on the ‘wrong’ side of the dense hedge bordering the farm road and I had to walk about 100 yards past the pillar’s location to find somewhere I could get through. Even then, it was a struggle. The pillar was almost totally obscured by ivy but fortunately, the ivy was easy to push away to allow a photograph of the top. The pillar is in good condition and complete with all it’s metalwork. The centre plug, unusually, had no engraving on it. The mist had started to clear, allowing a reasonable view to the north. There is a farm shop in the village at ST 70416 64758 that does an excellent breakfast from 07:30 in the morning. Well worth a stop!.

Lovely surroundings. The hedge at this time of year is far too thick to traverse - I approached this via the public footpath entrance on the opposite side of the field and walked around the field's edge since the crops were fully grown. The trig point itself was also surrounded by long grass and nettles, but a nearby Geocaching event has ensured several visitors recently as it has also recently acquired the Ye Ole Survey Monument status of being a virtual cache.
