On scenic route back home from camping at Hinderwell. In a wonderful position , roadside, next to tall beacon with a beautiful wrought iron basket. Also a viewpoint pillar which is always fun to find. Trig pillar painted white, cap replaced but otherwise good. Amazing views on a very clear but cloudy day, over to Fylingdale, the coast and to the south, the strangely named Little and Great Fryup Dales! Where does that come from?

Easiest trig to find ever, put Danby Beacon into Google maps, took us straight to the carpark next to the trig. Shame it was blowing a wet and soggy gale, as the views looked as though they'd be fabulous!

Second of six today on a meandering trip from Northumberland to Suffolk. This was a bit of a diversion simply to bag a TP with a ‘triple zero’ Waypoint number! Good views, helpful toposcope 20 metres from the TP too. I do like a helpful toposcope. If I won the lottery I think I’d blow the winnings on commissioning a helpful toposcope to be built next to every remaining TP...

With Farnham Friends returning to Pickering from an excellent circular walk from Runswick Bay. Gloriously sunny day, with very far reaching views, and also completely deserted, so very quiet. Interesting adjacent beacon, and toposcope. Still painted white, GPS plaque in place, plastic cap, west s/hole open but others fine, generally excellent condition.

Lovely spot high on the moors with spectacular 360° views. The pillar sits roadside near the unusual beacon and a nearby topograph, and is in fine condition. Visited as a family en route to Staithes.

Had a picnic here in 2009 and had taken photos of the pillar and the flush bracket even though this was six years before we started bagging them! Stopped again as we were passing to get up to date pictures even though the weather was nowhere near as nice as it was before!

Easy to reach pillar with convenient car park! Excellent 360 degree viewpoint. PIllar painted white and in vgc. FB faces south-ish with west-ish sighthole open only. Cap missing but a plastic plug is in situ.

HISTORY: Pillar completed around September 1947, exact details not on record. Computed as secondary triangulation station NZ42/41 within the Middlesborough block during 1948. Levelled for height in 1953. Final maintenance date given as 1991 but this pillar is now maintained as part of the GPS Passive Station network. SITE VISIT: Approached from east. Located at side of unclassified road which passes beside summit. Adjacent car park. Pillar painted white and in good condition. GPS plated. Plastic plug in spider. Flush bracket faces SSW, ~154°. Vented through NW sight hole. Almost full 360° open outlook, overtopped by mound with beacon.

Grand trig in a grand spot. Next to big beacon and almost a drive by. Wonderful 360 degree views, today especially good off to the south and Glaisdale Moor and Great Fryup Dale. Heather in full bloom and in contrast to the vivid green of the agricultural lowland. Well worth a visit.

Rode up to this one in style in the Vintage Bus running out of the Moors Centre at Danby. Super views in all directions which are identified by the nearby viewpoint indicator stone. Modern gas-fired beacon in place. hard to stand up as the wind was so strong!!!

Wonderful views on a clear day. Fantastic viewpoint. Visited on a drive to Whitby from Ebberston whilst the bairn was having her nap in the back of the car.

I guess this counts as a ‘drive-by’ as you can park almost right next to the pillar. It’s in good condition, has a coat of white paint and the second OS plaque indicating that this is also a passive station. What it doesn’t have is a centre plug as this has been removed and replaced with a plastic bung. At almost 1000 feet, the views are very good, particularly north towards the Scaling Dam Reservoir. There is a true ‘beacon’ close by and a topograph viewpoint a few yards away. There was evidence of recent pick-nicking activity but while I was there, I had the place to myself.

Unexpected find on the way to GC31DF - we didn't know it was there as the OS map had a huge viewpoint symbol right on top of the trig symbol! Easy to park very close by.

Unlike nearby Siss Cross, there is no problem in driving to this TP. One of the busiest hilltops I have been to, certainly for a January day. A group of hikers were having lunch, and many hunting types were gathering with their dogs.

Drove up here having seen it from Danby Rigg earlier in the day (rather difficult to miss given the white paint). No-one else around; bitterly cold, but great views, absolutely clear skies and a stunning sunset
