Lovely trig with plaque explaining the tump it is situated on. The field was covered in spider webs shimming in the light, surreal. Nice to have a public footpath trig to get to when 'hoovering up' the Derbyshire trigs 4th of 6 bagged today. First style coming from the farm was very slippy!

(3238) Parked on Hoon Lane at the start of the, ill marked, PRoW. Easy and pleasant walk from there to the pillar all told. Which is in overall fine condition. One side is adorned with a large blue plaque detailing the history of the area. The pullar itself sits upon an ancient burial mound. Good views at the location. Pillar history: Built on the 3rd of September 1938, at a cost of £3 5s 9d. Last maintained by the OS in April of 1978.

Parked on Hoon Lane just outside the stile to the PRoW. It's clear a couple of people have visited recently as there was a clear path through the field, over the styles and up the small mound.

Turned north of the A511 about a mile west of Hilton, narrow country lane. Crosses over the A50. Pulled over by trees at start of footpath by stile. Through field of buttercups to north then west over a couple of stiles. Pillar visible on mound about two hundred meters west of the stiles. Interesting information plaque on south side of pillar. Some sort of burial mound. Good views around across pastures. Spider and cap in place.

Parked in Hoon Lane near to stile. Rain stopped so a quick walk up to pillar. Lovely condition with great views from the Mount. Unfortunately, halfway back to the car the heavens opened up and we were soaked.Oh well

Parked on Hoon Lane. Walked up the road, and then climbed over a stile into a field to the left on to the public right of way (PRoW). Continued along the PRoW into the top of the next field to the left and up to the summit of Hoon Mount and the pillar. Spectacular views all round. There is a large plaque on the pillar which sets out the history of Hoon Mount.

re-visit. Unsigned footpath from SE hasn't been used recently - through deep grassy field covered in yellow flowered plants. One of two pillars in South Derbyshire with an attached history plaque. On tumulus which has been damaged by an old badger sett. Despite a very modest height it does enjoy 360 views.

In the area to visit this trig as the YOSM has visited it. Parked conveniently on a grass verge and had a short walk up to the Trig which turns out is placed on a burial mound according the sign attached to the pillar.

The field in which the pillar was sited was an easy walk, which made a pleasant change after walking through the pasture of the neighbouring field. I think I spooked the sheep.

Made my way up along the public path from the south. Interesting location with the pillar located on top of a possible iron age burial mound, Nice setting with decent views and the pillar in perfect condition. Shame about the background noise from the busy A50.

Meant to be the 5th trig of the day turned into the 4th having sought permission at Aston Hill farm from the lady farmer to gain access, she informed us that they had just put cattle in the field with young calves having just been TB inoculated. She asked us to return in a couple of weeks, respected her comments and moved onto to the Hoon. Easy parking at the end of Hoon lane and accessed via the PROW. Nicely situated on the Tumulus with good views and historic information plaque. All metal work intact.

Approach from west. Brickbats to the farmer who seemed to have made every effort to obscure the ROW and remove signs. If that is so then he's the loser because I ended up wandering all over the place tramping down crops and not doing fences any good.

Excellent day for walking.Bright and breezy.Parked on Marston Lane next to Hilton sports ground.Crossed Salt Box Mile.A road all bikers used to do a ton up.Crossed fields over bridge over A50.Onto footpath to cross to Tumulus with trigpoint on.Magnificent.I visited this venue many times in the past before the A50 with all its noise was laid PJR

A most interesting location for a trigpoint with great views – parked down the lane near to Hoon Farm and the stile into the field – still a fence to climb over.– tried to get a photo with Willington power station in the background – only the cooling towers remain.

This was a great little find, great trot up to it from Hilton, situated on a tumulus with a special plaque. (even though the burial mound seemed to be engulfed with Rabbits, and i am sure that the ground started to calapse with all the burrows)

Parked just before the Bridge over the A50 had a walk over to the Trig found the footpath wasn't marked very well and had to climb over a fence. Great views from the trig although you could still hear the A50.

Pillar in good condition, complete with all metalwork; situated on prominent tumulus, doubling as a rabbit warren. Approached from SE; footpaths are rather hard to locate, but the stiles (or remains of) are there. Interpretation plaque (fitted in 2001?) on the side of the pillar above the FB. Good all round views.

Lovely spot, on a rabbit infested barrow. Path a bit awkward to follow, but the stiles were there. As with Robin Wood over at Melbourne, there is an interpretation plaque on the pillar. Good views over miles of greenery (and yellowery)

Lots of rabbits. Located on top of a burial mound. very intresting because of the plack on the front giving a lot of information about the local area and the burial mound. the footpath across field not very well sign posted. Stile is nexted to a blue pillar by the gate.

The second nearest to my home. Although not very high, extensive views and an informative plaque. The photographs were taken on New Years Eve 2012 after I walked from home. I have to agree about the lack of footpath signs, although the metal posts remain, the field was very muddy making it very difficult to follow the path in its early stages.I ended up walking round the field edges to avoid all the mud. The views are still good for a relatively low pillar. 8/10
