Parked at spot height 515 next to the county signs. Followed the quad tracks / sheep tracks most of the way, bit of bog hopping and weaving to the trig.

A steady yomp across the moor from the Stang road to get here. Obvious shooting track to follow most of way. Pillar in suprisingly good nick given exposed location, only missing centre plug. Extensive views across towards the A66 and towards Teesdale.

Up from Stang House where there is plenty of parking. Not many grouse around nor people who shoot them. Kept to the feint track to the east of the gill till the end of the gorge then headed up to the trig. Then went on to visit the high point some way further on.

Slight change in the weather, another venture into North Yorkshire's marilyns - another one where the view was minimal too. Glorious sounds of the plover and curlew in the shifting grey - ahh lovely Autumn returns

On a Fags and Booze Circular-headed towards the trig from the parking area at Strang top initially following a track and then heading across the moor passing various designs of Grouse butts along the way the Trig is in Good condition with an open cap and one open sight hole , an open 360 outlook with slightly higher ground to the South , headed southwards to Booze via a sheepfold and Strang House

Walked up from Stang House following vehicle tracks up on the fell. South of Hurr Gill to cross fence at it's corner. Then followed faint tracks towards trig point. The fell top is surprisingly dry for this time of year.

From the parking spot at Stang Top. Visited Booze Moor first then this one to complete the 'booze & fags' trig bag. Much better view from here than from Booze Moor.

Same parking spot for this one rough boggy walking to this one grouse moor,trig in vgc no plug great views from here went to nearby Marilyn top as well this was my last pillar in the YDNP off for a celebratory pint now at the Tan Hill Inn!

HISTORY: Pillar completed 15th April 1948, cost not on record. Computed as secondary triangulation station NZ42/17 within the Middlesborough block during 1948. Levelled for height also in 1948. Last maintained by the OS in November 1980. SITE VISIT: Approached from southeast. Public parking off NW side of public road by County boundary at NZ018067. Near straight line to top with excursions to higher (NE) side of route to avoid throughs and bogs. Soggy grouse moor and surrounded by ponds. Pillar in good condition. Spider centre open. Flush bracket faces SSW, ~211°. Vented through SE sight hole. 360° open outlook.

Bagged on a circular to pick up two of the final remaining trig pillars on my Dales bagging list. Mostly okay approach, not too boggy, followed a thin track most of the way, from the road at NZ 01397 06332 (seen on Google Earth, but not the OS map).

To Sheepsocks. Was the Cache a plastic tub in a hollow containing paper, tealight and a shell along with a pen? If so I'm afraid the hard winter has taken it's toll. I opened it only to discover it was completely filled with ice and water.

vgc, no cap or plug, heather moorland, boggy in parts, intermittent quad track from road summit at County boundary. Drove up from Peterborough after work, just time to hoover up this and Whaw Moor en route to Lakes.

Nice walk up from car park near Stang Forest on a lovely summers day. Trig in good condition with all metalwork intact. Lovely moorland views with the forest to the NE.

Approached from road at Stang top; no path or fence but easier going than expected. Cloud slowly lifting and rain easing. Trig surrounded by water; plug intact. High point a bit further S is a randomly selected tussock.

A flat boggy summit,the pillar is in the water too. Another marilyn bagging trip. This hill is near the 2 degree line, and gets a mention in Nicolas Crane's Two Degrees West.
