Nipped across from the Hole of Horcum car park after a nice long walk in Newton Dale. Didn't fancy clambering the electric fence to cross the field, so we admired it from the nearby right of way. Not a particularly brilliant one, this, but nice to have found it all the same.

3rd trig on tabular way walk. Asked the farmer if it was OK to go through the field. He was happy for me to climb over the non electrified fence. He thought the trig was a monument to a downed aircraft! I put him right

Parked in the car park on the main road. Walked alongside busy road to the start of the country lane. Took a left into a stodgy field and the trig is in the next field. Very wet feet but not a difficult bag. Cap replaced with concrete. No real views to see and miserable weather for it today. Rams around but didn't take much interest.

A quick revisit after a trip to Whitby, so my little trigbagger could nab this one. No stock or crop in the field, and as before the gate was open. It was a boggy crossing, but only the one low, non-barbed fence to hop and we were away. I think this land has now been sold, so it could end up with a change of use - forestry perhaps? Pillar #59 for DD.

Boogy and foggy. Passed by en route to Whitby so it had to be done despite conditions. Didn't manage to give it a hug due to not fancying a 2nd belt from the electric fence (which I didn't need to climb over it turned out). One climb max required I reckon. All part of the fun!

Popped to see the Trig on a circular route round the hole of Horcum and over through Bridestone Moor, Not the best place for the trig stood in a water logged field with no real views. I'm dedicating this Trig to my good friend Damian for his 50th birthday

Our group walk - circular from Levisham to the Hole of Horcum - didn't pass the trig so had to come back afterwards. Not a problem on another stunningly sunny day, hard to believe this is Yorkshire in September! Field now full of sheep since last logger's visit. Rather limited views considering location ... Fylingdales to the N. Trig in vgc, S s/hole open, epoxy cap.

Bagged after an aborted attempt last year (cattle with calves). Parked in the Horcum car park and walked up to the main gate. Thankfully the field is empty, no crops or livestock, and has been for some time looking at the vegetation in there. The field gate was even open from the ROW... simple case of walking up and hopping over the final wire fence. Pillar in good shape, reasonable views all round - a good spot.

Slightly boggy ground, and deep ruts in the adjacent field to get over, but otherwise quite easy to access. I entered the field via the gate on the access track to the farm to save one fence climb, only to find one more close to the pillar, but easy.

September Camp 2015: Goathland. Bagged on way home. Convenient car park which is P&D £1. From ROW to West this requires a couple of fence hops which were easy then 100 yards across soggy ground to pillar. No one around. Nice area, another camping season ends on a high.

HISTORY: Pillar completed 29th March 1952 costing £20.19s.6d. Computed as secondary triangulation station SE97/27 within the Bridlington block during 1954. Levelled for height also in 1954. Last maintained by the OS in June 1984. SITE VISIT: Overall approach from southwest. Mapped car park on east side of A169 at SE852937 is pay and display. Short stop for a few minutes didn't warrant finding out the cost. North from car park to Old Wife's Way, 200m ESE along there then NE diagonally across grazing field to trig which stands just east of fence. Pillar in fair condition. Spider centre plugged with smooth brown resin. Flush bracket faces west ~271° towards fence. Vented through south sight hole. Open outlook very limited considering the location.

Nice warm spring day. This ones fairly easy to access from the car park and the nearby path. Theres a few fences to stride over, but not too tricky. Looks like it could be quite boggy when its been wet.

Visible and easily accessible. Access from footpath to east by striding over two low wire fences and across some boggy land. Pillar is in good condition. Views somewhat restricted by nearby woodland and comparison with those from car park.
