Last of eleven pillars today. Was in two minds whether to leave it and come back but so pleased to have made the effort to squeeze it in. Parked in Well, pillar is visible from the road into the village on the top of the hill. Footpath to north of village was flooded and a tree had blown down across the path. From the gate into the field it looks like a hill from a children’s drawing book and the pillar is clearly visible. A steady climb and what a view, 360 degrees, clear sunny afternoon. Stunning. One of the most memorable locations visited so far. No traffic, no overgrown hedges or fences to scale. Text book pillar. Top of the world, for a few minutes anyway.

Footpaths to both E and W conveniently cross the pasture field with summit and trig pillar. A 'No Public Right of Way' sign at the summit suggests a lot of folk deviate to it. Looks as though access was better tolerated in 1960's - an interesting photo Mal - great you've managed to keep it all these years. I assume as you remembered the outing it must have been a memorable ascent!

The Baptist Church is behind the War memorial in Odiham High Street. Probably all Buryfields and Robert May's boys as well. I am one of these, but who are the other intrepid team members? We walked at least a mile up the Hill to the Trig Point at the top for this photo. I was also present at the developing and printing of the photo in the Church back room one evening later that year. It was amazing to see plain paper turn into a photo image for the first time in my life :-)

Quite hard pushing cycle along the overgrown foot path from the north. There are a couple of styles to lift it over as well. The field was full of sheep with and electric fence inside the boundary. The TP has lovely panoramic views all round but didnt stay long as you could be quite clearly seen from several farm buildings. The sign next to the TP had completely faded away but when i got to the gate at the south of the field there is a sign saying to stay on the footpath and there is NO access to the top of the hill.

We parked along the minor road to the N of the trig, at the start of the private road that leads to Bowsaw Lake. There were two identical signs at the gate that stated "Bowsaw Lake Odiham Farmwatch Hampshire Constabulary Private Property Pedestrians Prohibited", so we took the public footpath to the NW and headed S into the woods. Very muddy footpath due to the recent wet weather. Once we got out of the woods, it was straight up the hill to the obvious high point of the area. Trig in good condition, concrete plinth exposed, tarmac plug, front and rear sightholes open, the 2 side sightholes closed. The metal sign next to the trig has now completely faded, you can just about make out its message. The bottom left corner of the metal sign has been deliberately folded over, as can be seen in Glaslyn's photo from 13 September 2009. I left a 2p coin inside the front sighthole (directly under the FB) for the next visitor to find.

We decided to ignore the aggressive signs telling us the trig point was on private land! It's a common for a start, and the the trig is not too far from the footpath. The hill really does stand out in its surroundings, and not surprisingly, the views from the top are excellent. The trig is in good condition. Worth a visit if you get the chance, but due to the stay away signs, we didn't hang about too long!
