And asked his permission to post his number here as the guy to contact Re a supervised visit.. 07387 109596

Set off from home in pleasant sunshine, but much colder than recently. Lanes to Ashbourne, then full length of Tissington Trail before rejoining tar to Buxton and Whaley Bridge for lunch. Stopped at Marple to look at map for 1st time and realised that this pillar was a possibility. Searched round industrial estate and found close view through Robinson's security fence from end of Southside.

Well todays visit was a speculative turn up at the security gates to find out how to get access and if it was possible on the spot as it was Wednesday working hours. No. As with Petronius Peregrinus he found you have to write in to the bosses in advance and they'll likely say yes an send a note down to the gate for permission. Interesting humorously that my Swype texting on the phone when I tried Swyping ' for permission', initially gave me 'got prison'. Haha

Thanks to Andy Bown for making the arrangements with Robinsons Brewery for this visit. We met up at the entrance to the packaging centre on Bredbury Park Way; signed in, were given id badges and high-vis jackets and then escorted to the pillar by a young lady who probably learned far more about trigs than she might reasonably have wanted to know 8-) Still, trig geeks must make a change of sorts from beer bores. Trig in the NE corner of the site on some waste ground; plug replaced otherwise vgc; FB facing away from the security fence. Surprised to see about 15 orchids growing next to the pillar - identified by Rob Woodall as Common Spotted Orchid (Dactylorhiza fuchsii) - thanks!. Subject to prior arrangement (phone or email the head office in Stockport) Robinsons seem quite happy to allow further visits. Friday afternoon seems to be a good time as we happened to arrive just as the shift was finishing for the day.
