Quite a lot of mud on country roads, parked on muddy patch on roadside about 150 metres north of the pillar. Through gate, along signed footpath on west side of hedge. Pillar in hedge. Cap missing. Slight chip out of one top corner , probably from hedge cutting machinery. Removed ivy from east side of pillar. Could be more tricky to spot in high summer when vegetation has thickened. Reasonable views to south west.

Open cap, & all four s/h's open, and a little damage to one corner at the top of the pillar. En route I visited Draycot Cerne Church (St James) now under the care of the Churches Conservation Trust. Delightful visit: shown around by Reuben who was born in the village, and has lived there all his life. Such an informative visit and a friendly welcome - was invited in for coffee. So any triggers out there who enjoy looking around mediaeval country churches, I thoroughly recommend this one. Later, to the County Ground for a top of the table clash: STFC 2-1 Exeter City. Really enjoyable day: church, trig, and match.
