Parked at the track gate to the mast BEWARE there is a cattle grid underneath the gate and covered in growth, but could do damage. The pillar is a teeny weeny stroll to the left of the mast and on a rocky out crop. My eyes are drawn to the Northern Fells..spectacular. I attended 40 Farms Fair at Rheged and gift to Lovingly Artisan for lecture/discussion on sourdough bread. Now I know..is it worth trying at home???

Took a short drive out to make this easy bag. Parked up by the gate, the cattle grid was mostly uncovered so little risk of injury. The gate itself was only secured by a string loop so was able to unhitch it and open it up. Short walk up to pillar pas some Swaledale Sheep. Great views all around, especially of Blencathra and the Northern Fells. Pillar didn't look in too bad nick but the wind was blowing strong so didn't hang around too long to make a thorough inspection.

WAB activation. Easy access from the gate. The render may suffer in the winter frosts so the damage will increase. Wet and cloudy so not much of a view today.

The low cloud had clamped down hard and fast on the Caldbeck Fells today, so not much to see on a dank dark day. That said, the pillar was easy to locate next to the mast and sat on a rocky outcrop overlooking a farm rejoicing in the name High Dean & Chapter.

A storm prevented us from walking on the fells, so we embarked on a round of trig-bagging from Greystoke. Parked in the hardstanding for the old mast track, and walked up. No one about, no livestock - just heavy rain. Pillar is ok, but has some cracks and weathering.

Condition just scrapes in at good - a fair bit of cracking on three sides - small crack on top - some damage on a side corner, at bottom. Nice views.

Over field gate from SW, along disused mast access track through a sheep pasture. Pillar has numerous hair fractures on front, left and rear faces and some damage to the rear left-hand vertical edge at the bottom of the pillar. Original metal top cap is retained, deeply indented lettering; rear sight hole open. Extensive panoramic views.

Tertiary station pillar completed 17th May 1952 costing £20.10s.0d. Pillar in fair condition. Spider retains OS centre cap with deep indented letters. Flush bracket faces 233° SW.
