Parked by Kirkton kirk and followed bridle path SW to Adderstonlee Moss till due W of Kirkton Hill, then thru gate into pasture field and headed towards obvious higher ground, through two more field gates and a final wall hop to gain entry to Trig field. Disappointingly murky day but still decent views, Rubers Law stood out but the Eildons barely visible. Better views SW towards Skefhill & Penchrise, Greatmoor & Tudhope.

Parked roadside verge just N of track start for Colifort Hill (NT 5069 1167). Good track till it peels off for the Old Drove Road. Crossed that and roughly followed fence/wall up the the trig. Pillar sits on NW side of wall, top has some reasonably significant damage whilst retaining an original centre cap (deeply indented lettering); LHD side sight hole only one totally sealed, front and RHD side plugs deteriorating, rear hole open. Extensive panoramic views.

Parked on B6399 roadside at Whitlawhaugh nt507116. Followed the road track east to the Old Drove Road, then fence line to Leg Of Mutton Plantation. Negotiated a couple of fences then uphill and NE to summit. Pillar is located on northside of a stone wall and electric fence. Spider top intact although fragments around have broken off. Limited views due to low cloud however glimpses of Hawick to the north. On return I noticed a small ramshackled wooden gate within the stone wall where I could have gained access to pillar side of wall.

Parked opposite the track leading to Hummelknows farm. Followed the finger post to 'Adderston Lee'. We continued along the Drove Road until we crossed the grass fields and found a gate in the corner at NT519118. This side of the wall climbing the hill is a lot smother underfoot. When nearly at the trig we crossed the wall via a gate to get to the trig.

Tried a new route for his visit, walking from home and heading up road SE from town centre turning onto track at NT511138 and following signposts for path past Kaimend until crossing a minor road at NT517132. From here went SE then S by edge of fields for a much drier than usual route up to the trig which is right up against a dyke running along the top of the hill and could easily be missed if approaching from the south. Finally got my feet wet descending by the usual route to NW to track joining road at NT511129 and back into town.

For though only just over a mile from parking area it seemed to take a lot of effort to get to this trig. A couple of fields then a trudge through some tussocky ground with some fences to navigate and finally a slog up a surprisingly steep and thistley hill. Rewarding views from the top.

It feels really remote up here even though Hawick is only a couple of miles away. Magnificent views are well worth the trackless tussocks encountered on the way up. The masts on Meigle Hill Galashiels were easily visible. Numerous other tops tops identifiable. A couple of minor chips out the top but in pretty good nick overall. Walked in from the NW, ample parking opposite the lane in an entrance to an old quarry.

Parked opposite Hummelknows road end and walked up track and through fields...a bit of a guddle this one, involving wading through long grass and thistles, bog hopping and fence climbing; however, on the bright side, none of the electric fences were live, we managed to avoid the cattle, and the rain stayed off! Trig located by a dyke but nice open views across to several notable Borders hills.

Managed to park opposite the entrance to Hummelknows Farm following the signed path to Adderston Lee. Diverged from the path immediately west of the summit choosing the easiest route up. Managed to keep my feet dry even in leaky boots which is unusual in the Southern Uplands in January.

Second visit. For photographs and GPS reading. Overall approach from northwest. Parking opposite the entrance to Hummelknows Farm. Followed the old drove road as mapped to a point due west of summit then beeline route along north side of boundary lines to top. Indicated as WHITE HILL on all maps. At the SE edge of a high grazing plot. Surrounding walls are all lined with electric fences which need to be carefully volted, sorry vaulted. Pillar in good order but top is starting to crack and chip. Spider retains original centre plug with deep indented lettering. Flush bracket on NW face of pillar. Back sighting hole open, others plugged. Views to Eildon Mid Hill, Black Hill NT72, Peniel Heugh, Rubers Law, Cheviot, Greatmoor Hill, Penchrise Pen, Skelfhill Pen.
