Fantastic views. I have driven to the car park before. I parked just after a stone bridge on the left. Walked up to the Humphrey Head sign. Come to the Outdoor Centre and go through the gate and turn right and go straight up to the trig. Cows present. Or go to the car park and scramble up the woods or through the gate on the left. Then come back on yourself to the trig. There is a gate near the trig. As barbed wire fencing.

Parked up at the end of the road by the cliffs and initially tried to go around the headland with a plan of walking up the gentle slope on the eastern side, but the water was a bit close to the rocks and the tide was coming in so retraced out steps and climbed up the steep path by the last cattle grid. A nice short hike with some clambering close to the top, but once on the flat the walk over to the pillar was nice and easy. Fantastic views all around making this one of the best short bags. Decided to walk back along the promontory to the outward bounds centre and then back along the road. Beer in the Keg & Kitchen in Grange afterwards.

HH was on the Grange to High Newton leg (bus no 6 or x6) and on a striking promontory - watch tides if coming along the coastline from Grange. A nice little jaunt with views over Morcambe Bay. I like Humphrey Head; this was my 4th visit. The last 2 occasions have been as finishing points for Cross Bay Walks from Hest Bank. The spur of limesone cliff juts out like an out stretched arm to help lift you out of the silty sticky sands. Today we scambled straight up from the car parking spot. Not much view today, but not much wind either, which must be a rarity looking at nearby windswept bushes. On a previous visit I saw a plaque on the cliff directly below the trig which read, " Beware these rocks as you ascend, here William Pedder met his end."
