Third trig of my Settle Limestine circular. Got here from Rye Loaf Hill, crossing the moors via the mast to the SW and descending to the delightful Scalebar Force. Followed the lanes round to here, found gate entrance, easy climb. Sheep using pillar to scratch back and big raptor pellet on top. Pillar in good nick, lots of lichen, still has original cap, dightholes being grown into at ground level. Good views all round. Great day out!

After Langcliffe and a visit to Scaleber, we nipped into Settle for an ice cream, and then decided we had just enough time to bag Hunter Bark before home time. I drove to Long Preston, up the Pennine Bridlepath, almost destroyed the car on a bump in the road at SD 82793 60033, and parked up as the road ended and became a track. In truth, I could easily have driven further as the track is good enough. A quick trot along the track soon led to a finger post at SD 82829 60778, and there was a good sheep trod up the hill and straight to the pillar. This is another excellent, easy access Dales pillar in fine condition with lovely, far-reaching views. We returned the same way with the sunset in our eyes. A lovely pillar to visit, and #56 for my little companion.
