Quick walk up the hill before the rain starts again. Very cold and windy, so didn't stay long at the summit. Would be great views on a nice day.

I parked at HU 3417 6938, just off the minor road on a small verge beside a passing place. 100m NNE along the road is a gate from where it is a short sharp climb up the hill to the pillar. FB faces S; W sighthole open, all others plugged; metal cap with raised letters. There is a nice looking cairn just a few metres from the pillar. Great views - despite the approaching rain showers! For those collecting Intersected Stations, Ungam Beacon (TP8865) is visible 4 miles to the NE in front of Sullom Voe Oil Terminal. After visiting the pillar I drove the short distance to Mavis Grind to see the point where the North Sea and Atlantic Ocean are separated by a thin sliver of land, before heading off to catch the ferry to Yell.

Approaching the trig from the north. Trig is just visible to the left of the cairn.
