Parked at road to south of trig. Field recently ploughed so heavy ruts made the field a bit of a pain to cross. Nice view.

Quick drive by. Viewed from minor road to south as farmer working nearby. Clearly visible from A19 as well.

HISTORY: Pillar completed 18th May 1951 costing 8.17s.3d. Levelled for height in 1953. Computed as tertiary triangulation station SE38/T46 in 1955. Last maintained by the OS in May 1975. SITE VISIT: Windmere Hill. Approached from east corner of arable field. Parked by south side of unclassified road, just west of crossroads with A19. Followed tramlines to avoid crop damage. They span east/west. From southern edge of field, 6th pair at easterly edge or 3rd pair at westerly edge. Pillar in good condition. Spider retains original OS centre cap with deep indented letters. Flush bracket faces ENE, ~65. Vented through SW sight hole. Full 360 open outlook.

Tried to do this a few weeks ago, but could not even see pillar in the oilseed rape. Today, the crop has been harvested, the field ploughed and harrowed ready for next years crop. The access window is tight.

I was returning from Christmas in Grosmont and got diverted from the A1 due to an accident I found myself looking for an alternative route and unexpectedly saw the trigpoint on with the wellies and a quick dash through the kale views of The White Horse. Some consolation for a terrible journey back.

Visible and easily accessible - or at least it was today as the crop that the field had been used for had been recently harvested. Every thing in good order particularly as there must be a constant stream of passing tractors and harvesters.
