Mostly went along road to got to this one. Only when i got to Marepond Farm did I go onto BWs. Again rather difficult to cycle along because of the sandy soil. Trig is made out of rocks. and has damage on one corner but that dosent spoil it much as it has good views and a big stone sofa in memory of Octavia Hill. She was a Victorian advocate for social housing and had nothing to do with Skoda. Coming back down was difficult as well as some of the BWs had been washed away. Then back to car as this was planed to be my last for today.

Original cap in place, lightly indented lettering; RHD side sight hole open. Distant views over tree tops to SE and W. Replaced the US 25c coin after photographing the top.

Sunny, mild and very muddy walk from Winkworth Arboretum (stunning late autumn colours) via Hascombe and here. A Thursday walk, the joys of being semi-retired! With Farnham Ramblers on circular walk from Hydon's Ball CP via Winkworth Arboretum and Hambledon, post walk visit to this trig - very sunny, deserted and peaceful. Limited views but notices suggest improvement later this year when trees to the south are cleared to mark centenary of Octavia Hill's death (1912). Stone built, metal cap indented letters, largely good condition except S s/hole open and very large chip out of NW corner of top exposing end of spider.

On my second visit after checking an OS map I found it with ease, good fun and an interesting trig point.

The track from the car park starts of at a gentle climb, but don't be fooled. The path to the top of the hill turns off from this and suddenly climbs very steeply. The pillar appears to be constructed from stone blocks rather than the usual cast concrete, which is unusual for this part of the country. One corner at the top has been chipped off, hence the 'slightly damaged' rating. As well as the pillar, the top of the hill has a number of hatches which give access to an underground reservior. Also, the is a large stone seat which is a memorial to Octavia Hill, one of the founders of the National Trust.
