I'm logging this one as a 9, as it's been fascinating today. I first scoped this one out on Google Earth, and taking into account the previous logs and their varying tales of access, I parked up on Wrosecliffe Grove to the north of the reservoir and headed down the footpath. It was exceptionally busy, with dog walkers, pram-pushers and courting couples all out in force today. I waited for a gap in the traffic, and nipped over the metal gate at the foot of the mast access track. The wall adjacent was knackered, folk have clearly used this in the past. After a quick uphill stride, I crossed the grass and reached the stone wall of the reservoir. There are several broken bits and obvious footholds, but the original iron gate is a dead easy climb and gave easy access to the foot of the grassy reservoir bank. The fact that there were multiple piles of dog crap here tells you everything you need to know about access. After a few yards, everything looked rosy, until I rounded the bend and came upon a huge cavernous hole excavated in the wall of the reservoir. It exposed the interior structure, and the resultant debris pile was my easy route uphill. Fascinating to see. A short stroll through the long grass later and the pillar came into view. The views up here are 360-degree spectacular; as a previous logger has mentioned, the locals are being short-changed! The pillar itself was in fine condition, despite the missing cap, and although you feel conspicuous up there, I stayed a while to appreciate the vista. It is genuinely incredible. After finishing my 12-trig round, I mentioned the earthworks and my concern on the FB page. This led to a spot of Googling, and as it turns out the earthworks may well have been the exploratory or first part of a recently submitted planning application to hollow out the site and build houses. On the way out I checked out the 'old' access route at SE 16654 37137 on Westfield Lane, and that too shows recent signs of clearance and development. All signs, therefore, point to this wonderful pillar being in serious danger, and if you have it on your to-do list, I'd strongly urge you to visit ASAP - especially as access is presently so easy.

Spent a little while driving around Wrose (the pillar can be seen from near the junction of Cotswold Avenue/Spring Hill)before deciding that an approach from the north (ref. johnbamforth) was preferable. Parked in Westfield Lane opposite Meadowcroft Close and walked back into Wrosecliffe Grove. The trick here is to head for the electricity pylon where the gate in the field leads you up to the transmission towers where the 2 stone walls and iron fence have been broken. A steep bank to climb and a struggle through knee-high grass gets you to the pillar - what a performance ! Worth the trouble ? Yes, the views from up here are extensive and outstanding, Baildon Hill and other trig sites clearly identifiable.

Difficult, illegal access to this trig. Gate from Westfield Lane has 2 padlocks on it now. Best access is from Wrosecliffe Grove on N side of site. One of my photos shows the access point. The gate chain has only a screw link for security, but also you can step over the low wall to the left of the gate. Follow concrete track up the hill then access the Resr site thru plenty of gaps in walls and fences. Steep climb then up to top of Resr and pillar can be seen due S. You can clearly see access paths on Google Earth at 500m eye level. 70kph winds up here today. I had trouble holding the camera steady but the views are outstanding. Visibility V. Good for a change, although grey skies.
