10/10 score for all the reasons mentioned by BasilDowl below, in particular the spectacular 360-degree view. (Note the gate now topped with barbed wire, so you need to be athletic to jump the wall). In addition (if you're feeling brave!) a look inside the reservoir reveals a labyrinth-like space with remarkable acoustics - the slightest sound echoing + reverberating around. All likely to change soon with the forthcoming development though, and although the pillar will be relocated it's uncertain it will be accessible, so glad I caught it when I did.

I'm logging this one as a 9, as it's been fascinating today. I first scoped this one out on Google Earth, and taking into account the previous logs and their varying tales of access, I parked up on Wrosecliffe Grove to the north of the reservoir and headed down the footpath. It was exceptionally busy, with dog walkers, pram-pushers and courting couples all out in force today. I waited for a gap in the traffic, and nipped over the metal gate at the foot of the mast access track. The wall adjacent was knackered, folk have clearly used this in the past. After a quick uphill stride, I crossed the grass and reached the stone wall of the reservoir. There are several broken bits and obvious footholds, but the original iron gate is a dead easy climb and gave easy access to the foot of the grassy reservoir bank. The fact that there were multiple piles of dog crap here tells you everything you need to know about access. After a few yards, everything looked rosy, until I rounded the bend and came upon a huge cavernous hole excavated in the wall of the reservoir. It exposed the interior structure, and the resultant debris pile was my easy route uphill. Fascinating to see. A short stroll through the long grass later and the pillar came into view. The views up here are 360-degree spectacular; as a previous logger has mentioned, the locals are being short-changed! The pillar itself was in fine condition, despite the missing cap, and although you feel conspicuous up there, I stayed a while to appreciate the vista. It is genuinely incredible. After finishing my 12-trig round, I mentioned the earthworks and my concern on the FB page. This led to a spot of Googling, and as it turns out the earthworks may well have been the exploratory part of a recently submitted planning application to hollow out the site and build houses. NON-VISIT ADDENDUM: planning permission was eventually granted to develop this site, but after I raised an objection, the pillar was made a condition of the planning consent and has to be protected by repositioning somewhere on the site.

Parked in Westfield Lane opposite Meadowcroft Close and walked back into Wrosecliffe Grove. The trick here is to head for the electricity pylon where the gate in the field leads you up to the transmission towers where the 2 stone walls and iron fence have been broken. A steep bank to climb and a struggle through knee-high grass gets you to the pillar - what a performance ! Worth the trouble ? used to play up here as a kid, chucking stones down the open manholes and listening to the very scary echoes. all a bit safer now. easy access from the north east side

Expected this to be difficult but it wasn't so bad. Over metal gate, up past transmitter and through gap in outer wall. Then anti-clockwise until the trig is visible and theres a convenient gap in the inner metal fence.
