Had to go and collect the dog, Mr N, after we came back from our holiday so thought I would bag some more Trigs around Bristol. I can try out my new phone, that I got in the Black Thursday sale, as well. Quite an easy one to find. You could almost drive to it via the track that goes around the back of the houses. It would have had good views before the trees had grown. But a rather battered pillar. Had to dig out the FB as the grass had covered it.

Handy alley between 105 & 107 leads directly to the pillar on a sloping grassed area to the W of Ilchester Cresc. Top of the pillar has suffered severely with the ends of all 3 spider arms exposed. It also has the grass level with middle of the FB - had to return to the car for a spade to dig down to reveal a BSM-style plate. Surprisingly the original cap is in place; all sight holes obviously below ground level. Limited views W and N due to tree line providing screening from the A38 below.

From the road this one is easy to find having passed through the small pathway between 105 and 107. It is slightly damaged with a blue tinge and it has become somewhat buried. No doubt, the locals haven't a clue what it is all about but with a little vegetation clearance and if you can ignore the noise of the A38 it could become a pleasant spot with potential views over south Bristol including the Georgian splendour of Clifton and Brunels Impressive Suspension Bridge.

The pillar is sited on a grassy bank between Ilchester Crescent and the A 38. It is buried up to the bottom of the FB and its top is severely battered. It still has its spider and a metal cap with shallow lettering and has FB BsM 3374. Through the trees to the northwest the wooded hill of the Ashton Court Estate could be seen and to the north over the factories of Ashton Vale is Cabot Tower and Clifton with its suspension bridge; central Bristol lies beyond Bedminster.

We parked in Ilchester Road and walked down to the A38 where the path starts. The trig is just below houses and garages and is buried to the height of the flush bracket. Fortunately, there was a foot long length of metal pipe lying in the grass so Tom set about digging the soil from the FB. This was last visited on 21st Feb 2005, but since then, a brick had been shoved in front of the FB and the soil had built up so it took some time and a grazed knuckle before the FB came into view. Squirted with water, rubbed with grass and picked at with a toothpick, we were finally able to read it. The trig itself has lost a couple of corners and someone has burnt what appears to be something plastic because the top of the trig is black and has black stuff running down the sides. Amazingly, the plug is still there, blackened, but still discernable as metal with lightly indented lettering.
