This was a nice opportunity to combine a few activities. Parked up at Hidcote Garden and had a look around then left my wife at the cafe whilst I walked up the bridleway towards the masts. Nipped across the freshly cut field to the pillar. Very nice views, especially of the Malverns. Onto the adjacent field and over the low fence to the County Top. Back to the garden for another walk around and finally off to Defford and the fantastic Monkey House Cider Pub.

Just one of those glorious sunny afternoons when it feels the world has stopped. After escaping a too busy Cotswolds we revert to the usual trig (in Gloucestershire) and county top business. Parked near the mast, on to the eastern leading old trackway to Warwickshire county top then back to this trig next to the hazel tree and field of peas. A stunning envelopment of green with Bredon and Broadway hills one side. Malvern in front and Birmingham and Bardon hill distant.

I was slightly disappointed to find that one can drive all the way to Warwickshires top. It sort of takes the fun out of it. Being able to bag a trig while I was here made up for it though as did seeing some goldfinches. Walk to the back of the mast complex and then follow the stone wall to the right.

Pillar is in a ruined dyke half in Gloucestershire and half in Warwickshire and not far from the mast and dish covered summit which is the Warwickshire high point. Almost the northern tip of the Cotswolds, Meon Hill being the last outlier to the north. Somebody shooting nearby.

Sadly, there are better summits in S. Warwickshire than this one. A minor road crosses the summit, which is dominated by mobile telephone and radio transmitters. The trig point is on the side of hill, just behind the radio enclosure and marks a height of 259m.
