Clag was just above 650 m so no further issues. Limestone is gifted the 4 today (was only going to be 2 , but got greedy and spied another 2 lurking nearby). With hand on heart Yorkshire does have the most superb limestone pavements and caving system in the UK.

That said it was a great experience and very enjoyable with some great views along the way including Ribblehead Viaduct. This was the third of three pillars and this also offered great views. It appears to be in generally good condition albeit there are signs of some running repairs and the original centre for the spider has been replaced with concrete or similar and a hole has been punched through that.

The hottest day of the year so far, beating the previous record by about fifteen degrees I would guess! Did the decent thing by parking in the National Trust car park at Clapham then headed up river. There's a moral here. The car park had taken all my change - so no "Toll Track" (what???) for us. Instead we took the high road to Clapdale. Resisted the Cave, but did indulge in an ice-cream before sweating on to Trow Gill. (This really is a good walk.) Here we met what must have been a Health & Safety road trip, about 30 able-bodied teenagers being shepherded down the Gill, with supervisors assisting every 10 feet. A queue waiting patiently at the top. Was this really necessary? Any how. On to the open hillside above and a quick detour to Gaping Gill which I absent-mindedly assumed to be a spring rather than a pot. All very weird. Quite a slog to the top and far too many people there. (A Tuesday!) Still, once we had finished lunch they had all gone and we had the views to ourself. Down to the east but then a sharp right at Nick Pot. This really goes to show that most people do Ingleborough in a rush to complete the three peaks. What a difference. Un-nervingly underused, and quite tricky where it finally meets the Pennine Bridleway. But we made it. What a fantastic route. Great pint outside the New Inn to complete the day! Wonderful.

Ingleborough certainly looks imposing so I shall most definitely return in the hope of better views next time.

This was a successful attempt at the Yorkshire 3 Peaks in under 12 hours that we organised as Venture Scouts. Ingleborough was the second of the three climbed, the 2 girls in the party had dropped out (my sister & Dr Mike's sister) so this was climbed with Dr Mike, Chris East and Dominic Smith. Pretty murky on the top, and boggy too as I remember...

Ingleborough L-R: Dominic Smith, Mike Read, myself. Attire inspired less by sensible walking gear and more by trying to look like a member of Echo & The Bunnymen I think...
