Parked at the car park to the E of the trig station, then walked W on Wayfarer's Walk until we came to the junction with the path that goes S (approx. SU358621). From here, we entered the field (that the trig station was in) from where the 6 tall trees were. The crop had been harvested and the ground was completely dry (we're in the middle of a very long and hot summer) so we just walked across the field until we got to the trig station. There were a few very impressive, very tall straw stacks in the field that we could see all the way from Walbury Hill. The trig station was in good condition, concrete base exposed, with original metal cap. Tip for future visitors: if you visit at a time when there are crops in the field, here's how to get to the trig: after you enter the field where the 6 tall trees are, walk S along the fenceline / hedge (that goes NS). I.e. walk S next to the path (the path is in the NS direction) but walk on the W side of the hedge. Walk until you get directly E of the trig, then walk W along the wide tractor track. The tractor track is in the EW direction and it will take you straight to the trig. * * * Revisited 5 December 2017: the farmer has deliberately left a strip of uncultivated land in the EW direction that leads directly to the trig. Follow this strip. See pics attached. Also, as noted by previous loggers, the trig is not at the highest point of this hill, so it's difficult to find unless you're walking along the strip of uncultivated land.

Up past the ghoulish Combe Gibbet accompanied for much of the way by an inquisitive red kite. The field containing this pillar has recently been ploughed, so it was an easy jog across the furrows and not at all muddy. Good time to do this one before the rains come. Pillar, with its plug intact, is in very good condition considering its position - must have some very careful tractor drivers up here. Following this walk, on to watch Swindon Town 2-1 Plymouth Argyle in the 'Paint Pot' Trophy so: fine walk, three trigs, two churches, and a step nearer Wembley.

Not to be confused with the Inkpen (aka Walbury Hill) trig which is 2km to the east. First time I visited this trig the field was planted with rape that was mature and impenetrable. This visit the crop had ben harvested and although ploughed and sown with a new crop, the ground was dry(ish), firm and the crop not showing, so easy-peasy. Parked near the gibbet at top of Gallows Down and walked both the Inkpen trigs. Pillar is in good condition and some good views, particularly to the south, but also north from the ridgeway path.
