Sought and obtained permission to visit the pillar from friendly farmer, although I wasn't sure how joking he was about a £10 charge. The trig was the best sort ;providing some unexpected and wide ranging views from a neat grassy hilltop.

No problem, permission from farmer to access trig. A bit of low cloud today but on a better day the views must be very good. The farmer said he is thinking of painting the trig now it's so popular.

Started off sheltering under road side trees from heavy shower, until these were waterlogged. Set off in rain only to find campsite and café a few yards away. enjoyed a good coffee whilst waiting for downpour to pass. Cycled into farmyard from main road and friendly farmer walking across gave permission to walk up field to pillar.

Was pulling into farm track when a young guy on a tractor was pulling out. I asked if I could go to the trig and he said park in front of the house. From there it was through a silver gate, under an electric fence and up onto the rounded top. Good views.
