I saved this bag for a time when the nearby Good Beer Guide pub was open so just asked at the farm on the way. The lovely lady told me to just park in the farmyard and nip into the field. Very nice views in all directions and an easy to find pillar being used as a gatepost. Looking at the exposed base, the convenient location in the wall and the nearby higher grassy knoll made me think that the pillar may have been moved at sometime, but OS mapping shows it in the current location, so probably not. Onto the Fox at Ousby afterwards from my GBG tick, and an extra bonus finding out that it is a Doubly Thankful village.

Bagged a line of benchmarks from the main road towards Ousby. Trig easily found at wall junction.

Quick bag from the road across empty field. Parking on the verge for 1 car just before field entrance. Pillar in good condition, in use as part of the wall with short section of barbed wire fence between it & the wall. Flush bracket still visible clearly though.

Parked in farm yard courtesy of lovely farmer who also showed us the way. Sheep in field. Trig is in good condition despite being used as a gate post. Easy bag.

Had planned a late walk to Lacey's Caves but hadn't realised the footpath had been washed away. So just time for a few nearby agricultural trigs of which this one was the best in terms of a half decent view.

From the SSW following the field boundary. Pillar has been pressed into service as a gatepost but seems in good condition despite. An original centre cap is retained, raised lettering; rear sight hole not determined, other 3 sealed. Extensive panoramic views to both Pennines and Cumbrian Mountains.

A large number of travelers in the area en route to Appleby Horse Fair. Knocked at the farm but no reply. Simple walk across one field from rear of farm yard. Still quiet on my return.

Pillar green with algae, in corner of field. Turnips are slowly being eaten by the sheep in adjacent field. Approached from SE, parking in gateway, Gatepost has a Cut BM.

Plug with raised lettering. Corner of field, approached via gate at roadside. OS don't seem sure of spelling; trig is called Jardens but the farm is Jardines.

HISTORY: Pillar completed 31st May 1951 costing £14.14s.9d. Computed as tertiary station NY45/T35 in 1953. Levelled for height in 1972. Last maintained by the OS in June 1983. SITE VISIT: Piece of cake. Park by gate at SW corner of field, NY607349, verge secure. Hop gate, RHS of boundary wall and walk along western edge of grazing field to trig which is in NW corner of field. Pillar in good condition. Spider has replacement OS cap with raised medium sized wide letters. Flush bracket faces 159° SSE. Vented through westmost sight hole. View to Cross Fell.

5th of 8 New Year's Day trig visits. Trig looked very sorry for itself hemmed in by a pile of stones and metal gate. Thankfully the views were simply beautiful on this sunny and frosty day. Plug intact with raised lettering.

To stay out of view it's best to take the gate after the bit of wooded verge after the farm. Good views of Cross Fell etc. Plug with heavily indented lettering.
