Parked in village of Shutford, on lane just south of the church. Through gate to south and along footpath, first stile is about 75 metres east of the field corner. Path continues across arable field, very wet and squelchy at the time. Beacon visible on hill towards south east. Onto a track which then bears east, after about a hundred metres path turns south through an open gate. To the east is a gate into a field with a lovely well maintained barn. Not locked and no signs. Through there then uphill. At top pillar in view a few metres beyond the beacon. The beacon commemorates VE Day, the writing on the sign is flaking off. Spider and cap in place. Good views. Coming down the hill, noticed a small plantation of young trees beside the path to the north west of the hill. Plaque has weathered very badly but seems to commemorate the 2022 jubilee.

Wonderful views, the interest of the beacon, a place to sit and a pretty village in which to start and end. had it been a bit later I might have been tempted to use the 'chippy' that is next to the pub.
