2/7 Trig bagging on way back to Sheff after dropping Aussie bound son to M'chester airport. Asked permission at Bridge Farm and it was readily given, the kind lady asked me to keep to field edge as it was newly seeded for grass, no problem. And what a position, the farm has a backdrop of the Jodrell Bank radio telescope and the trig is on the facility's grounds, luckily reachable through the hedge.

Drove to farm to ask permission to access the trig from the farm side. The kind farmer's wife said no problem and pointed the way through the farmyard and round the field edge. She asked that I did not climb over the fence into the Jodrell Bank complex as there have been complaints. As much as I wanted to climb over to take a FB photo I complied with the request so as not to jeopardise future visits. Made do with looking at the top of the pillar.

Forget trying and failing at Jodrell Bank. Use little yellow road immediately to the south west, turn right ( east) just before road goes under railway to the farmyard, parking in the farmers yard by the house and asking permission. Although very muddy farmyard, easy peasy as its right on the boundary right up against the fence just in J B territory and easy to hop over the fence to photograph the flush bracket that is facing the offices....doing it that way without bothering Jodrell bank where you're likely to get disappointment. I was surprised this was so easy and stumbled across trying this ironically having gone down the wrong road trying to access Jodrell Bank site from the south. My solution here is by far the best option going.

Reluctant to venture further so I waited around and a few minutes later an overalled man came by. He went and fetched his colleague from the nearby and smaller of the two telescopes, who he said knew about what I needed. The second man, fropm the engineering staff, took me to the pillar on foot. Now sited in new hedgerow; field to West and new research buildings for Square Kilometre Array a few feet to East across lawn. in good condition and plug intact. Engineer recalled OS coming to use pillar "20 years ago" and erecting a scaffold tower to take measurements. Would not be visible from North in visitor area around main telescope due to new building.

Nearest public point is the picnic area but pillar not visible due to buildings and greenery - considered jumping the nearby gate but security took an interest so resisted! Consoled with a (very good) postcard from the visitor centre showing the pillar and dish.
