No sooner had I reached the TP than the black clouds started gathering and rain seen advancing at a speed towards me! Initial views were good, within 10 minutes mist, drizzle and lots of grey. Seems to be the story this summer! Never has been my favourite part of the Pennines - today's visit hasn't changed my view.

Passed within 300 yds of this pillar doing the Pennine Way in July 2002, but I had different priorities back then and didn't think to detour. Today with the the sun shining on Watersheddles Resr, the Worth Valley looked as nice as any Yorkshire Dale. Parked below Harehill House and walked up the Millennium Way as far as the Keighley Moor Resr Dam and then headed west to pick up the PW. From there the trig was visible and easily reached. Lots of feelgood factor from the top.

I was in the Keighley area to collect some furniture, so had a small window to bag either this or Withins Height to the south. I opted for this one, and after a quick Google Maps scout for a layby, I left the car just beyond the junction of Cragg Bottom Road and New Laithe Road and then went up to the empty shopping building complex/holiday flats. The ROW is non-existent on the ground, there is no signage and the field gates onto the moor hadn't been opened in a long time. I suspect the vast majority of folk heading up here just go up the Pennine Way further east. I ended up joining the PW anyway, and then it's a short walk uphill to the pillar and Wolf Stones outcrop. The pillar has a replacement cap and a small amount of damage to the top face, but is in otherwise fine condition and has stunning views - it is a lovely spot. I returned via the PW, avoiding the earlier access hiccups.

It's a fair old way from Keighley Moor - the Wolf Stones would be a far better monicker! Good view today across to Lad Law, Pendle Hill and up to the 3 Peaks. I liked it up here, the path was OK - surprisingly firm considering the amount of hail and rain we'd had recently. Done on a circular from Haworth via Top Withens and the Pennine Way.
