Thanks to all the earlier posts that directed us up through the lichened gate this was a nice easy bag. Parked up at the FP and through the fabled gate. Followed the winding track up the narrow field to a gate in the NW corner. From there it was a relatively simple climb up through the next field to the pillar which sits to the west of the stone wall. Great views down over Tebay which was under an inversion.

Parked due south near an entrance to a footpath where there is a layby and plenty of parking. Across the road, and through a lichened-encrusted wooden farm gate, and headed for the drystone wall. Followed this straight up climbing over just one wooden fence to reach the pillar on this side of the wall. A little damage to the top of the pillar is evident, and the original cap (large lettering) remains in place. One sight hole open - next to the wall. A splendid Cumbrian country scene below.

Spider top intact, however chink of surface cement missing on surface top. Spotted a hare and interesting kilns near roadside.

Approached leaving road, from S, following walls, passing sheep that were not too concerned - (good parking area about 500m E along road). Top face of pillar (screed) about 30% eroded. Quite a number of thin surface cracks on 1 side face & 3 side edges. Good views of Howgills with Yarlside just visible above trees to S. Nice setting, but the sound of a barking dog was a bit unnerving.

Parked in entrance to track at NY 6629 0522 on south side of road (by 221m spot height on Explorer map) and walked directly across road and over wooden gate into a field of sheep, thereby avoiding cattle. I headed ENE along the wall to the trees at the E side of the field and then N up the steep hill along the wall. Yes the route can be seen from the top floor of a couple of houses at the eastern end of Kelleth village, but it did not feel preventatively exposed. I had to cross a barbed wire fence near the top but at least I was the right side of the wall for the pillar! 86m climb over about 450m - an average gradient of approx 1 in 5. Pillar has nice cap with thick raised letters but some missing concrete on top; FB faces W away from wall; E sighthole (wall side) open, all others plugged.
