I parked in the pub and walked through the nearest farm gate on the corner, around the buildings then straight up the hill. It was a stiff pull up a steep slope at the start of a day's trigging. No cows but plenty of sheep! Had a short conversation with the farmer on the way down who saw me on my phone, pulled up in his 4x4 and asked if I was alright, bless him. He had no probs with me bagging the trig and an easier climb for those more polite would be to follow the farm track around, allowing an opportunity to ask permission. Not bad views of the North coast.

Parked in a field entrance on Down Lane near the derelict wind pump and walked easily across two fields. On entering the trig field however the cows and bull turned from curiosity to animosity very quickly so had to beat a retreat! Fortunately, the other field adjacent to the trig is full of sheep so after an awkward manoeuvre over the barbed wire fence the bag was completed.

Pillar up on bank between 2 x new wire fences. Very misty and was half way across field when herd of cows loomed out of the mist running towards me. Outpaced them just but was not amused. Return trip was cat and mouse (cow) criss crossing hedges to avoid them ! Pillar good condition.

Followed the same route as Mick and Shane it's an awkward place to get to and, with the animals around you can hardly do it without them drawing attention to you! The pillar is on a low hedge line with the plinth exposed. Original plug with slightly-indented letters. Sightholes appear to be recently closed. Traces of paint can just about be seen.

i have been pleased with the general condition of devon banks on this trip. now if farmers would only learn to occasionally lay the trees on the top of the banks.
