(3288) Drove up from the wonderfully name Crackbottle Road. Someone was about as I neared the farm, so quickly asked about visiting the pillar - permission freely given. Drove the rest of the way to the pillar. The track/road isn't too bad. Pillar sits opposite side of hedge so it entails crossing a ditch - easy enough - and getting over a fairly low electric fence - possibly not on anyway. Thankfully the hedge has been shaped around the pillar so all points visible. Pillar all good though the centre cap is missing and remains open. As I was about to leave another farmer on a quad came over to ask why I was in the field. As permission had been already given a nice chat ensued and he seemed genuinely interested in what I could tell him about the pillar etc. Pillar history: Built on the 28th of November 1948, at a cost of £7 12s 6d. Last maintained by the OS in May of 1984.

Virtually invisible from the roadside but easily viewed from the field, although it is set in the hedge so viewing in the summer may be difficult. Not much in the way of views from the actual trig due to proximity of the hedge and the flat field 'plateau' of Bassett's Hill; better from the road looking south.

Very easy to miss from the lane-side as the trig is well-esconsed in a prickly hedge. It'll be even more difficult to see when in leaf. A relatively better view can be obtained from the field side of the hedge, but I didn't partake as field conditions were not good for a person in cycling gear!

Leics CC were repairing potholes in the track though I can think of a couple of much busier routes that need attention. View is rural but not as good as others on our loop from Hallaton (2 pubs one with a café behind it which does fab cake) and saw a pair of hares - appropriate as Hallaton is home to the Hare Pie Scramble each Easter Monday.
