Very strange location but must've had good views before housing estate was built. Took narrow footpath from end of Ardern Close. Bear left at fork and left on to wide track. 30 metres then left and downhill on another narrow footpath with a few log steps - you will eventually reach a gate into a garden in V of boundary fences. Before you get to the V the pillar is down along the boundary to your right about ten to fifteen metres before this path end, uncovered from ivy at the moment in front of garden with neatly manicured lawn. Really satisying to find, if weird!

Easy find with GPS, which took us straight to it. There are tracks through the dense, scrubby wood that lead to it after accessing woods from end of Arden Close off Southwood Drive. Pillar is in awkward spot with copious garden refuse strewn about it. Original cap in place, deeply indented lettering; all sight holes open; BSM-style FB. No views.

After visiting the nearby TV mast decided I would have a go at this one. The previous two "found" logs really helped here. But only after we found it. That might not sound right but it is true. The trig was impossible to spot so when I eventually shouted to Mrs K that I had laid eyes on it I removed all the ivy from trig. If anyone wants to find this as soon as possible the hint here is to find the massive blue trampoline in the back garden as this is where the trig is. Be quick though as ivy will regrow quickly. As a previous finder has stated. This is a very satisfying trig to bag.

Amazing! I suppose the pillar once had good views E/ SE over the city, before the houses were built, but even so it's odd it's not higher up. Truly bizarre. Thanks to the Cyclist for very helpful directions. Just to clarify - as s/he writes, you "will reach a gate into a garden in V of boundary fences". Then - "Turn back" - this means "turn back" the way you have come, back up the path - NOT along the line of the fences which separate the gardens from the scrub - and then twelve yards or so back up the path, it's left, slightly downhill, and the TP is deep in ivy, hard by the back fence of a house.

Glad to visit in early spring before the vegetation takes hold. Pillar covered in brambles, ivy and garden debris, not visible until within a few meters. BSM type FB on east face with cap still intact, had to move ivy to see. No views at all, suprised pillar is here and not higher up the slopes, perhaps on installation better views were to be had than from the more densly wooded slopes. The Bristol pillars do seem particularly difficult to access.

The pillar is sited amongst scrub next to the back garden fence of some private houses on the lower slopes of a wooded ridge. It has a metal cap with small raised letters and FB S/3384. The scrub between the path and the pillar has recently been partly cleared to make for relatively easy access compared to the visits of others. The site was reached by a very indirect but very pleasant route from the Coombe Dingle car park of the Blaise Castle Estate. The houses mask any view the pillar once possessed. Some of the suburbs of Bristol come into view a little higher up. There is mature woodland on the higher slopes of the hill and on the crest a pleasant strip of open grassland stretches to the Blaise Castle Estate.

Having reviewed the previous logs we decided to try this one on New Year's day, armed with gardening kit, and it paid off. GPSR co-ords spot on and a recently felled tree helped clear the way so it was just the final 20 or so feet where we had to cut our way through to a trig that was completely overgrown, at least until we had snipped away! We found the crown in mint condition, probably due to having been completely covered for some years. A good 20mins of gardening has revealed the trig ready for the next visitor. Strange spot to erect one in the first place.

I managed to get a GPS reading where the path was reasonably open to the sky, and kept contact as I struggled through the undergrowth. I needed the GPS as I couldn't spot the pillar until I was very close. I got many scratches from the young, strong bramble briars, so good luck to anyone who tries this one later in the year. A lowish score is deserved for pain and effort, and the backs of houses don't help either.
