The pillar is sited near the hedge of an unoccupied field and is easily reached from the bend in the minor road a little to the southeast. It stands on a six inch plinth; has a smooth, blank metal cap and has FB S5719. There is a pleasant view over gentle countryside and the village of Thornford to the north. Part of Sherborne can be seen in the northeast. To the southwest the village of Yetminster can be seen with the mast on Green Hill in the distance. To the south looking over the hedge several of the hills and ridges of South Dorset are on view.
