As others, parked on the grass triangle at Machermore and walked the mile and a quarter east along a v good track before 70m of ascent north up a steepening but dry hillside. Fantastic panoramic views for a sub 200m hill, descended east to bag the unusually located Stranraer AS. It’s certainly possible to drive to the ‘Path’ sign leaving just a short walk up to the summit, there is a wide verge on the S side of the track to park; only two closed gates would have needed to be negotiated today.

From the grass triangle parking spot. Pleasant walk to the trig along track with wide views. From the pillar I got my first ever glimpse of the Ulster hills just peeping over The Rhins of Galloway.
