Fourth pillar of a marathon day walking. Having covered the pillars to the West last year while walking from Ingleton, and those to the East while walking from Kettlewell in March this year, I've now done the four remaining in between: Cosh Outside, Pen-y-Gent, Cow Close Fell and here. Descended to join road to SW then headed to Helwith Bridge, Ribble Way to Horton and the road back to our holiday cottage at Selside. Almost nine hours walking with only short pauses, so I would think over 20 miles done.

Done on a longish walk from/to Settle. Took the bridleway from Henside Road up to the first wall then turned north (ignoring the stile/gate) to follow the wall up to the field corner (after 200 yards you'll reach the grassy quad bike track that heads uphill following the wall). From a distance I could see the broken wall but getting nearer the electric fence was visible. The fence near the trig runs alongside the old wall heading both west & north. Fortunately there was enough of the old wall at the field corner to provide a platform (for anybody reasonabley agile) to climb & jump the fence. As this is now on access land I would have thought this should be a prime site to have a stile. The fence has one sign at this point saying it's electric but the fence carries on for miles across Fountains Fell with no other signage - is it stll live? If it's live is it legal if it's on Access Land? If it is live don't do the reverse of this initial assent, the fence is too high to jump from ground level unless you're confident with your Fosbury Flop. No cars, on foot!
