Parked on the road to the south of the pillar. opposite a property called Oakfield. Walked up the road that leads to Knowle Farm. At SO 69435 81498, entered a wood and walked up a track, before climbing over a gate at SO 69498 81514. Headed north west from there up to the pillar. The cap was missing, so replaced it.

Parked on lane to S and took track N, where it splits up through woodland between tracks to field. Left across this field of crop, over a barbed wire fence surrounded by robust nettles (lots of stings) and TP then reached - surrounded by hidden thistles. I have a log from my fathers walking journal when he came up here on 7 May 1939. No mention of fences, just lots of bracken, so the hill must have been much wilder 80 years ago.

Parked in wide entrance to Knowle Farm (SO 6919 8103). Took track leading to the farm, branching off left after ~530m, then steeply up though woodland. Pillar sits ~20m N of the tump summit. Original centre cap retained, deeply indented lettering; RHD side sight hole open.

Parked on main road, walked up farm track to junction. Left along another track for short way then up wood, with a fight through undergrowth to get out into field at top.

Drove up the track to the fork at the wood. Parked up (left a message on the dash explaining my intentions) and walked up the wooded bank and left across the field edge to the trig. Very heavy low cloud so regrettably no views of my childhood home, Stottesdon.

Parked outside the house at the start of the ROW to the S. Followed footpath through very muddy fields. Crossed the stream then straight up to trig. Returned via farm tracks.

Somewhat overgrown. but only long grass. drove up track and parked at fork. then up right fork to crest where theres a wooden fenced gap in the hedge. Nettles squashed and followed perimeter to trig. looks to be an exceptional viewpoint but todays thunderstorms meant less so.

Parked to the south on the edge of the wood, walked NW up the road then the track towards Knowle Farm, gap in the hedge at the summit of the track, walked up the field, over a fence and there is the pillar.

Gets an eight as its my 800th pillar in first calendar year........to the day! Drove up farm track to S edge of wood,passed through gap in hedge as previous but seemed a bit exposed so went back via wood waking lots of pheasants on the way!

Room to park in the entrance to the farm road and the woodland acts as a good shelter from the farm itself but no PROW that you can be "lost" from. If approaching from the road via gap in hedge beware of pheasant feeders that have a triglike shape in the mist.

Are there any wine-making triggers out there? If so, this one's for you! It's sheltering under a lovely elderberry bush which is in full flower - a visit here in October should be well worth your while! Access isn't too easy - better to check with the local farm and then there is a convenient gap in the hedge where you can climb the fence and then there are no more obstacles. The pillar is all intact with its original plug with deeply-indented letters. No paint visible. W sighthole open, the others closed. Lovely views NW to Clee Hills, N to Wrekin, E to Cannock Chase and Clent. No views S. Nice broad beans growing in access field!
