Approached from west along narrow flooded lanes, at one point having to reverse about one hundred and fifty metres to let a truck towing a trailer to pass. Passed a roadside cross which had piles of coins left on the top. Last quarter of a mile was from the south east, pillar visible from the lane. Luckily able to pull in at gate entrance to field on south of lane without blocking it. Nip across field to pillar, on plinth. Great views towards Exeter and surrounding countryside. Cap plugged.

First pillar of the day and first GOML of the trip. Parked at the field entrance near the ruined barn and carefully walked along tramlines to trigpoint which is on a high plinth in the middle of the field (not sure what the crop is, sweetcorn?). For once I decided to climb the plinth for a selfie, which whilst in progress was spotted by the GOML. Informed we were on private land and thanked for at least walking in the tramlines. Not bad 50 pillars with no bother. #51 of the trip. With Coineanach Hutch.

Spotted this trig point just a bit further up the road from where we were mid-drive-around-caching-trail, and as I was driving I voted that we made a visit! Parked in the padlocked field gateway and made our way following the GPS arrow very carefully through the soya bean crop to the trig - which sits on an approx 3' high concrete plinth with good views all around. Seems in good condition [at least no plough or hedgetrimmer can damage it!] with all bar 1 holes plugged. Interestingly and often the case, we then saw a path through the crop towards the ruined barn and then back to the field gate which was far easier and better than the way we had arrived.

A proud trig dominating the field in which it sits in splendid isolation. Great views of Exeter and the surrounding countryside, but sadly not today, as it was too murky. There are 2 cracking pubs in the village of Ide, 2km to the E, in which to quench your thirst. Revisited 12 years later, walking from my rented barn conversion in Ide, from which you can see this trig.

Hmm, this looked like an interesting Pillar, sat up on some sort of plinth, and dropped in the middle of a field. I didn't go any further than just inside the gate, although the field had recently been cut, (and would probably be ploughed soon) there was clearly no public right of way. Yet another permission only access pillar. (I'm getting good at these !). The views were pretty good tho'

This is the view SE towards Exmouth. The pillar is located ~0.1m up behind you. This is just inside the gate.
