Into the jungle that is Knox Hill. Entered from a south-westerly direction, and determinedly snipped away with my trusty secateurs, (although in truth a machete would have been more appropriate), making gradual progress. I veered to the right: no luck. Veered to the left: again no luck. Yet I seemed to be at the highest point, but couldn't see it. Moved several inches to my right: Voila! Spent some time at the pillar (cap in place with shallow lettering, and one s/h open) clearing vegetation. The pillar is now visible from the grass bank to the east walking around the hillock, but you need to look very carefully. I imagine that now we've had rain at last, a growth spurt may soon cover it up again. You've probably got two or three weeks. Quite an adventure, but at least this pillar lives within a secure environment and must be safe for generations!

Parked at house just up from road bridge, then same route as Clochandighter. Getting to the general area was the easy bit, pillar still took some finding, as it's completely enveloped in gorse. Pillar in good nick sat on large plinth, OS cap in place, one sight hole open.

Spotted the hat trick whilst passing the day before, Berntsen, FBM, Trig (100m from road), how hard could they be....... Bernsten buried, took 1/2 hour to find, FBM in comparison easy, parked at school, just down the track on the left up a slippy bank. The trig, 100m.....easy....? Parked in field entrance opposite gate, climbed gate and headed for the fence which luckily had no barbed wire. So I grabbed it with both hands and started to climb over.....argh, electric and on, full on......ouchies. Back in field, couldn't see any way over or under the fence so back to car. Followed road round and down the hill and parked next to a house. Trig still only 300m away....should I try from this side? Well she who dares.... 1/2 later and after climbing two barbed wire fences and spending 20 minutes battling through gorse and bracken, torn to pieces I finally found the trigpoint. Out much easier, only about 20 meters of gorse. So top tip, walk around the gorse until you are about 20m away then head in. Bring secateurs!

One of the most difficult trigs to date, both to access and to find. The gorse hasn't gone away in the last three years! Followed roughly the way suggested by the last visitor and eventually found it. No views at all due to gorse. Original plug with slightly-indented letters. E sighthole open, others closed. Concrete base exposed several inches all round. It was a pleasure to get back to the car!!

Second visit. For GPS reading and photographs. SITE VISIT: Approached from west. Parked in old quarry, NE side of road at NO583396. Into fields beside road bridge to north heading NE along boundary line until a clear line through steep gorse bank becomes visible, then search. Grazing land. In dense gorse, took a bit of finding, used GPS. Gorse needed cleared for photography. Pillar in good condition. Spider retains original OS centre cap with shallow engraved letters. Flush bracket faces NE, ~47. Vented through sight hole on FB face. No view due to surrounding gorse.

Probably the most difficult pillar I have ever had to find. Was 1 metre behind it and could not see it. Thick gorse intertwined with brambles and nettles. Came from east.

Only had a big scale printout of map so it looked like it was in a jungle of gorse on highest spot. Eventually decided to go for it but gorse higher than a trig and couldnt find it. To add injury I then got electrocuted on fence. Will return with 10 digit grid ref.
