Stayed off road again for this trig. Getting tired and hot now. Its hard work cycling off road. But I am now on my way back to the car. Nice views. I can see the the windmill where I bagged a trig last time.

From WSW, Huckswood Lane to the old quarry then field boundaries to trig. Pillar sits on an open field boundary. There is a patina of hair fractures on lower section and wider fractues on top screed. Cap missing, no plug; L & RHD side sight holes open, front and rear plugs degrading. Lovely 360deg downland views. This is where my ancestors farmed in the 18th and 19th centuries.

This was such an enjoyable 'wild flower walk' from Chalton along the Sussex Border Path, visiting the trig, then down to Old Idsworth to call in at St Hubert's Church beautifully set in the middle of a field, with its superb mediaeval wall paintings (why is it 20 years since my last visit?) - and the pillar?: it has some cracking and seems badly weathered. There is no longer a cap here - has it recently been removed? Wonderfully peaceful up here, the only sound the music of the larks.

Wedding anniversary trig #2. Dug ourselves out of the Red Lion at Chalton after a very good lunch to walk along the Sussex Border Path and then up the hill and round a few fields to log this trig. Mizzle had lifted a bit to the west, so good views of Windmill and Butser Hills. Pillar slightly cracked on top, and three sight holes open, but cap still in place so not bad.

Having come from Broadreed Trig, stopping for some refreshment in the name of the local cider Adelstones we made our way here. Parked at Cowdown Lane near farm building and got talking to the guy who lives in the little house there, very knowledgeable about the area, told us the story about some tea smugglers on horse back who stopped near by to get fresh horses and through the owner down the local well along with there spent horses....anyway, nice fella. Short walk along tree covered path, turn right onto PRW across field, up the hill, trig on your left in a small copse as stated, lovely views of downs and the Sussex/Surrey border hills. Trig is slightly damaged, plug in good condition with raised letters. This was our 49th Trig, so now we are going off to Snowdonia to mark our 50th. Now, where was that beer shop with the cider!

I'm writing this in Aug 2018 having just dug out some old maps and found notes on a few trigs I did 20+ years ago before I even realised this site existed! I remember we visited Uppark on this day and my map notes indicate the mountain bike route taken which included this and West Harting Down. My map notes record "1lovely all round views, particularly of Ditcham Park School and nearby Uppark".
