A bracing 5hr winter walk starting and finishing at Buckhams Bridge. Wild mountain goats and lots of sheepfolds.Bitterly cold at this trig point. It presented us with superb panoramic views of the Cheviot Hills and the hills of Scotland. The mountain rescue hut is well located to seek protection from the wind.Lots of interesting things to chew over especially Chew Green. The sunset was the icing on the cake.

Last long walk in the Cheviots alas but a fine crisp start and sun to tint the beautiful waves of cold cloud. The stunning and very wet border ridge via Dere Street, Shillhope and Cheviot hold the view with Great Dun rising into view, darkened sun dazzle, from the very top of Lamb Hill. Say hello to Rubers and Hownam Laws too - great week.

Parked at the bottom of the Rowhope Burn and walked up to Carlcroft before taking the paths up Carlcroft Hill and heading for the Mountain Refuge Hut and picking up the Pennine Way / Border Ridge North East. Combined with Beefstand Hill, Mozie Law and Windy Gyle before dropping back down to Rowhope, a good five hour walk with my longest suffering friend, Doctor Mike. Great weather and great views all day - superb.

Pennine Way Day 2 of 17. Fourth and final trig of the day. Once again a nip over the border fence into Scotland was required, but pillar very near to path. Great views once again tempered somewhat by the fact that our water was running very low with miles in the sun still to walk. Lesson? Never ever carry more beer than water. Lived to tell the tale though and after quenching thirsts at Colin's in Byrness a lovely cider was to follow.

This pillar is passed when walking the Pennine Way. Local access from the Scottish side is from Buchtrig. Road end parking is on the private farmyard where permission to park was sought and kindly given. The residents of Buchtrig are friendly towards walkers. S7989 photographed 6/10/2007, GRP.
