Nice remote feel about this pillar. Walked in from Swanlaws Farm, Borders (NT 7711 1594), over a few other hills first. The pillar has a poor coat of white paint, looks great from a distance, but poorly applied. Centre cap missing, no plug; rear sight hole open. Great views... of heather clad hills!

My second visit, though I’ve also previously walked past it in conditions so poor I don’t think I even spotted it. Not quite that bad today, but initially a major disappointment. Parked by Carlcroft and headed N up to summit of Beefstand Hill then followed the Border Ridge W. Weather deteriorated sharply the higher and further we went and could see nothing from the TP when we reached it. We waited for the cloud and rain to clear, but it seemed like Storm’s first Scottish TP was going to be nothing but clag...hoping that was not to be an omen of things to come! About 5 minutes after leaving the summit and descending to the Mountain Refuge Hut the clag did clear, so we nipped back up to the top to grab some worthwhile photos of the views.
