Pillar in an NT-managed park extremely popular with dog-walkers. Easily found, but trees rob it of a view. NT car park is too small to accommodate all the visitors, and payment over the phone (the only option) is an absolute faff.

Parked in the NT car Park and wandered around the NT site. Nice views to south but nothing to the north and west. Gloomy day but lots of wildlife bird wise.

From the NT car park. A popular place for dogs to exercise their owners. Unfortunately not much of a view from the pillar but great views from the E edge of the summit plateau.

Parked in Lambert’s Castle Hill NT car park to the west of the hill. Through gate into parkland. Very misty at the time and raining so difficult to see very far. Expected there to be a more obvious area of higher ground which would be the direction to head. Felt as if I was heading east at first, then higher ground seemed to be towards the north although I wasn’t sure of my bearings. Saw a couple of people walking their dogs about seventy five metres away so hurried on to catch them up. Asking if they knew where the pillar was they did and pointed it out about fifty metres away in the direction I had just come from. In my haste to catch them I had walked straight past it. On fairly level ground open on one side bushes on the other. Cap missing. Etched FB, oh dear. Difficult to get my bearings as visibility very poor. Thought I was heading back to the car park when I met another couple coming towards me, they said they were heading for the car park and also weren’t sure which direction it was. Turned around, steep drop now to my right. Felt like it was the correct way, it was.

Easy to locate and access. This pillar has some great views to the east and south, but nothing in the other directions because of woods. Visited on a nice day as part of a circular walk.

The pillar stands on a flat topped hill between the Marshwood and Axe Vales to the east of Axminster. The hill is owned by the National Trust and has its own car park. The trig lacks a cap or plug and has FB S3723. The view from the pillar is restricted by nearby trees. From the edge of the hill there is a fabulous view to the southeast across the Marshwood Vale to Chesil Beach and Portland. Impressive panoramas can also be enjoyed from the ramparts of the nearby Iron Age Hillfort. The hill has been designated a SSSI.

Put off leaving bike in car park by all the warning signs about theft, so took it with me through gate. Beautiful sunny day looking SE with good views. Turned round to find sky behind covered in black cloud and waterproofs donned just in time to be assaulted by a violent hail storm.

I suspect that when this trig was constructed there where far less trees.Colmers Hill can be seen from here. A good panoramic view can be had off the edge of the fort. There was a signaling station here during the Napoleonic wars.
