My second visit, same route as before up PROW from Whittingham Lane. Difference nearly 4 years later is that instead of traversing through 4 separate fields every one of the hedgerows has been grubbed up and the PROW now runs through one huge 'prairie' field. On the plus side the field sits in is now a pasture field so no problems accessing the jauntily angled TP. The sun set behind Werther Cairn just before we got to the TP, but still a marvellous backdrop to the Cheviots tonight.

Parked and followed the footpath from the WSW, no access issues this time of year as whatever has been planted in the field had only just started to grow.

Due to the current crop growth I deferred from yomping across the field. I was within 70m of this trig point. It is located in a crop field. The pillar appears lightly askew with its plinth somewhat eroded. The PROW is still accessible from SW approach to this pillar.

Third attempt to reach this TP, on two occassions in the autumn the field with the TP in it had yet to be harvested. Must have been the last wheat field in Northumberland to be harvested! Not sure if the fact that the foundations of the TP have been completely undercut and the TP sits proud in the field on its exposed base means it is 'Slightly Damaged' but it remains upright and with no obvious cracks or damage to the main body of the pillar. We followed the signposted footpath to the ENE of the TP parking by the gate just before the first of the few houses on Whittingham Lane and headed along the field edge WSW. The first gate is very stiff to open easier to use the stile, over another stile at the second gate, the third gate is secured with barbed wire but the dog managed to negotiate the stile cleverly, then at the top of the third field where the footpath veers half left there is another stile which gives you the opportunity to hop over the fence into the field with the TP in on your left rather than go directly over the stile to follow the footpath. Superb views north to the Cheviots, particularly Hedgehope. Scanning east Titlington Pike, Ross Castle, Brizlee and Freemanshill all well seen. Views to the south go no further than Thrunton Crag and woods.
