Part of a round walk from Rowarth. We decided after walking up Lantern Pike, it did not count until we had touch the moved pillar itself….so off to the hill across the way. Metalwork removed. Why would anyone drag it across there?

No issues with walls or fences. Approach from the S via the Pennine Bridleway & at the Lantern Pike fingerpost take a left heading for the small pool & grid reference 0247387858 where a break in the wall 'guarded' by well trampled barbed wire is easily negotiated allowing access to the trig clearly visible to the right.

Have never managed to find this one before! Actually clearly visible from the top of Lantern Pike if you know what you're looking for (thanks to others for their helpful photos!). There are a couple of easyish ways over the wall/fence - one in the corner near the pond, and one about halfway along, then a quick nip up the hill to the trig.

Abandoned a search for this trig (it appeared on a Christmas card) due to very frisky horses. Not so frisky today. A notice is on the wall near the ponds "No access", sod that it's open access land. Very sad to see it "discarded" and somehow a reflection of how we live. Johnny (JRT) had a "lift" back to Chinley. 2/3 for the colour green, just so much vegetation at the moment. Rich and lush!

Good walking on what started to be a fine day and found the trig easily. Went on to the viewpoint on top of Lantern Pike itself, with tremendous views all round. Well worth the visit. The last of my surviving Derbyshire Trig pillars to be logged. This pillar was very likely my first trig visit way back in the 60's. Both me and my brother have an old B/W photo with me sat on top of the pillar in what I believe would have been its original positon. My recollection of the position was approx. 5 metres South of the dry stone wall and on the crown of the Hill. (in the back ground of the photo) My logged GR is where I thought it stood. Excellent views onto Kinder and way down over Manchester. This gets a 9 because its local, its views and I sat on it as young lad.

Logging this even though I visited the toposcope on the summit and not the toppled trig. If only I had read the posts before visiting.... Passed this on a Jarrold walks book stroll from Hayfield, via Snake Path, Park Hall, the Pike and a short bit of the Sett Valley Way. Fantastic weather, lovely walk, brilliant day. After an ice cream, my brother Jon and I then did the Hayfield Treasure Trail (treasuretrails.co.uk). A really lovely day spent! Me, Jon

Glad I checked previous logs before going looking for this one as it isn't shown on my OS Explorer map and, despite its name, it isn't actually to be found on Lantern Pike (it's on the adjacent and slightly lower summit). From the layby next to Chunal Moor back along the road past The Grouse to Monks Road. Along Monks Road to the PROW onto the Open Access land. Followed this South to intersect with a farm track where I then headed West towards Matleymoor Farm and the Pennine Bridleway. Upon entering the Open Access land of Lantern Pike I headed SW straight up the hill, following the wall around to the 358m spot height and the rather folorn pillar. I was watched intently by a man in the adjacent (private) field as I photographed the trig and then returned over the wall on to Lantern Pike. As others have reported, trig is missing its spider. The FB is facing downwards - I could just squeeze my hand between the ground and the pillar but couldn't confirm earlier reports that this too is missing. Awarded 8/10 more for the views from Lantern Pike itself rather than the location of the trig pillar. Great views in every direction whilst the topograph meant I could easily identify other hills I've already visited. Cobden Edge readily visible but I couldn't make out the pillar.

Cycled up Pennine Bridleway beyond tarrred section to first gate, then walked left along well used path alongside wall. Path turns more than 90 degrees right toward monument, but the toppled pillar is in view and it wasn't to hard to pick a route across and over one intervening wall. Surely wouldn't have come here but for the pillar - an attraction of this hobby! Extensive views to the South. Lovely warm sunny day.

Very modest hill. Actual trigpoint not the summit of the Pike [373m, observation point]; rather, the 358m spot height to the south west [on the grassy, not the heathery, part of the hill]. Pillar, complete with base, lies prone a few metres downhill. No spider, plug or FB - only surviving metalwork is 3 of the hooks. Public. Access Land. Peak District National Park. [Easiest access is from the byway on the west side, up the track past the disused quarry, but this is not a RoW.]
