Pillar is a bit careworn with chipping and wear to top edges. Original centre cap retained, raised lettering; all sight holes open. Cloud down on a dreich day, no views.

Tried to access from the A915 via Chesterstone Farm but sign at road end warns against pedestrian access to hill so had to walk down main road to cemetery in village and take conventional route to trig. Amazing views from summit. Site of a field meeting (conventicle) in the 17th century by the man with a sum on his head - Donald Cargill. Tried to imagine where the conventicle would have been held out of the wind.

4th Trig point and 4th Marilyn of the day and light fading fast. Hopes of a good sunset and taking photos of star trails dimmed as the cloud cover put paid to both. Parked at cemetary then dutifully followed the sign-posted way, the rebel within quelled. The route up is crying out for work on zigzagging the path so that it is less damaging and less of an eyesore to the hill. That said the pillar was in could condition with the spider complete with cap and lettering. I stayed at the top trying to pick out lighthouses. I could see Elie Ness, Fidra, Bass Rock. Inchkeith and Isle of May but not Fife Ness or The Bell Rock or any to the north east. There was enough light fromn various sources for me to descend without resorting to using my head torch.

The steep path above the wind turbine would be proper slippery in the wet. It's a fine little hill for something less than 1000', with extensive views all around. Trig in good order.

My first trig! ..Originally visited 1974 as a six-year-old... I recognised the summit I was fogged and traumatised on! All sights open with a beauty of a see-thro! Glorious upright cap lettering with a bit of wind-nibbling to the top corners. Very reminiscent of the Knock - particularly the wind today! Views over the whole of Fife, Bass and Pentland Southward, St Andrews beyond a wee Hill and the Mountains beyond Tay and Dundee. The signs warn of cattle grazing... I've yet to meet a crossbred Haggis-Cow that would graze on this helluva incline! I must dedicate this one to Agnes Black (Nannie) and Jean McPaul (Mom) Bless you both - and thanks for steering me toward a new 10/10.. Nearer my God to Thee! Slainte all! :D

The Land Reform (Scotland) Act 2003 clearly sets down in statute a presumption in favour of access, if taken responsibly, over most areas of land and water. It establishes statutory rights of non-motorised access (e.g. for walking, cycling, horse riding, canoeing) to land and inland water for passage, recreation, education and commercial activities. The access rights must be exercised in a responsible manner and there are reciprocal obligations on land managers to act in a responsible manner towards access takers, both in their behaviour and in the way they manage the land. So I acted responible manner ignoered the signs and just went up hill my own way, pity the weather was bad never met anyone!

A gentle spiral around the hill was gentler on both of us. No stock for the dogs to worry, but there will be cattle here soon. View was very fine as expected on such an isolated hill. Right up to Hill of Wirren and long views up the Forth. Pillar intact and in good shape. Carried rather a lot of litter down though.

Spider centre has a OS plug which is cast with raised small narrow lettering not the original in a pillar this old. Flush bracket faces Allermuir Hill (south west). If playing by the rules as dictated by the signs erected on behalf of Chesterstone Farm, Largo Law can only be legitimately accessed from NO243037. Strictly no dogs allowed due to nature of grazing stock. This route is via the farmyard where their aggressive little dog is loose and bears its teeth at passers by it backs off when shouted at! Great views all round. Twin summit, originally visited 4/10/1986. Revisited and photographed 27/03/2004, GRP.

Trig 4 of 6 for the day. Clockwise walking route starting and finishing at Markinch station. First visit. To record FB number. The pillar was completed in October 1943 costing 6.19s.0d. Later in 1943 this marker was computed for triangulation as a secondary station in the Edinburgh secondary block although its trig number NT48/T42 implies that it may have been intended as a tertiary station. The flush bracket was levelled for height in 1967. This trig point was last maintained by the OS in July 1985.
