A very pleasant walk to here from Belton in Rutland, trig a short diversion from a geocaching circuit . The pillar is in good condition apart from a small chip out of one top corner (probably caused by hedge cutting), all the metalwork is fine. The back of the pillar is hidden from view though, as it is in the hedge. View to the north when I visited was newly ploughed field, no view to the south due to the tall hedge. A short diversion along the hedgerow from the wide Leicestershire Round bridleway. Couldn't see the pillar until I was right up to it, summer vegetative growth doing a good concealment job. Greensward views to the North, South views obscured by the above head-high hedge.

It's in there somewhere..

Bridleway recently ploughed up so walked round edge of field. Red kites struggling in strong wind and a small flock of partridge shot out from the hedge as I passed.

A joint visit with Carole. We parked at Bluestones Farm to the south. Then used a very muddy bridleway which headed north then west to the pillar. The pillar itself is situated on the north side of the hedge. Apart from a small piece missing from the top corner the pillar is in good condition and still retains an original indented lettered metal plug. Would have enthused about the rural location but not today - the mud was appalling.

We found the trig point, but only when we were alongside it, very overgrown and in the hedge. The condition of it is good, I didnt look for or see the damage mentioned to the top, but all of the metal work is in position and is in very good condition. We parked at Launde Abby and walked a 4 mile circular walk. The tea room at the Abbey were open at 4.00pm on Sunday afternoon!

A walk up from Belton, but initially I tried the field side of the hedge at the ridge - wrong. Readily seen from the bridleway, and not too encroached by the hedge. The pillar has some trimming damage at the top corners.

Walked up no through road from Belton and then bridleway onto ridge. TP enveloped by hedgerow with dogrose; NE corner slightly chipped. Stunning views to S down to Eybebrook reservoir and beyond for miles. More restricted views to N. Larks, crows, sheep, and a gentle breeze. A lovely secluded place.

Took the long way round to this one making it into a pretty long walk. I parked near the Friary then headed East before heading south along the bridleways. There was a fair amount of shooting going on today and I also passed the local hunt. Managed to escape without being shot or bitten. Came back along the path by the trig to the road and then north back to the Abbey.
