Walked right past it the first time (having not read these logs). Thought it must be on the reservoir bank so walked round the other side. Gave up, sat in car and accessed this page, then went back to find it as described. A hole has been cut in the bottom of the hedge to view it, which is just as well because at this time of year it's invisible! This is Somerset's Southernmost extant trig pillar, so another one ticked off on the project list.

Pillar is located in the hedgerow which forms a boundary between a field an an unidentified enclosure (not a field). Access can be gained from Pye Lane where it's a hop over a gate into the field and a short, 60m, walk along the hedgerow. Pillar is on a very large (high) concrete plinth and is fairly well buried in the hedge. I didn't notice any damage, but seems there is some reading other baggers comments.

The pillar stands on a substantial plinth inside a hedgerow separating a field and a covered reservoir compound on a small hill to the southeast of Chard. The trig was accessed from the field around the back of the reservoir. This field can be entered directly from Pye Lane or from the field adjacent to the reservoir on Cow Down Road. Some sizeable chunks are missing from a couple of the top corners of the trig; it has a metal cap with shallow lettering and has FB S3727. The site has a view northwards over Chard to the hills beyond. From the adjacent field there is a view east toward Crewkerne.
