Easy track from Wythop Mill. Stone-built pillar with a slightly curved profile; asphalt cap, a small part of the top screed missing. Nice views towards Binsey. Unsilent fells.

Great views to Isle of Man, which was superbly clear at the time. Walk coupled with Sale Fell. Interesting to note that the 1 on the flush bracket was at quite an angle.

Out with Alma Aurea from Powter Howe for a circular walk taking in six Wainwright's - Sale Fell, Ling Fell, Graystones, Broom Fell, Lord's Seat and Barf. This was our only trig of the walk, great views from up here.

Visited with meltdiceburg on a c.15 mile hike from Powterhow Wood featuring 6 Wainwrights and a trio of other summits. Took the steepest, most direct route up from the Sale Fell side - absolutely brutal in the warm and incredibly humid conditions! Great views from the trig though.

From the road at the bottom, go through the gate onto Ling Fell. Following the path to the west or east will lead you to the top; however, the path to the west is not as steep. Great views to the north and west; and also over to the northern fells.

Ticked off a couple of Wainwrights and this was a bonus trig bag on the second. After descending from Sale Fell to the Wythop Valley road followed the track around the fell to the south before heading straight up a steep path to the summit. Great views all around. Descended to the north to Wythop Mill and back along the road to the car at The Pheasant Inn.

Never visited Wythop Valley and what a timeless and magical place to discover (just off A66). Parking available at Brumston Bridge. I went straight up the front of Ling Fell (from access gate) however be warned it is fairly short but steep and the Old Corpse Road may be easier. Worth the pull up to the stone Lakeland pillar, then continued to visit Burthwaite Heights, Lothwaite, Rivings and Sale. Circular route was 4.5 miles and highly recommend. Gifted to a kingfisher I saw yesterday on the River Kent. Never seen one before and unmistakable.

Used the small parking area down at the side of Wythop Beck just near river bridge. through the metal gate onto the fell and took the direct route up the fell side. Lovely little top with great all round views on a day with clear visibility. Traditional stone pillar with plug filled. All other metal work intact. Returned via the marked tracks which gives you better view on return journey. AW's No 191 ticked.

Parked by Brumston Bridge and followed the Corpse Road up the fell. Lovely view of Sale Fell on the way up. Murky cloud at the summit prevented any views from there. Pillar in good condition except some damage to the rendered top surface. Returned down steeper eastern side as marked route found on-line.

Parked a little bit further east along the road from the old school in a small muddy lay bye near to access gate onto Ling fell. Took the direct line straight up the fell towards the trig point,but returned Around the fell on the marked tracks on the map.

Parked in a lay-by next to the old school ny176294. Followed the bridleway SW towards Highside Farm. A well crafted gate into Edwards Wood leads you to the open access land. No evidence of this plantation on the 1:25000 OS map. Interesting style embellished with dedications. Direct yomp to the summit provided panoramic views of snowcapped higher mountains. Paragliding on Sale Fell. On descent observed a stoat,white in colour, scurry into a pile of stones.

Surely that's not a "7"... having given up on the higher hills - more heavy rain we grab this lovely hill on the edge of the fells. From that small layby and back via the Corpse Road. After a visit to Cockermouth visit the lowly and surprisingly beautiful Watch Hill (Marilyn).

Roadside parking to NE. Pleasant, if stiff, walk up over rough heathery ground, there is a path from approx NY 18435 28630. Odd shaped slightly tapered stone-built pillar with top screed missing several chunks, hence 'Slightly Damaged'. Cap missing, asphalt plug; LHD side sight hole open; a decidely wonky '1' on the FB. Good panoramic views with plenty of identifiable Lakeland peaks on display.

Stone built pillar. Low rounded hill in northern Lake District near Cockermouth. Car parked on minor road near Burthwaite, a few roadside spaces available close to gate giving access to open fell. Ascent via Corpse Road, then grassy path swinging up to the summit. Very wet and windy day after unseasonably humid start to October. Would be a good viewpoint on a nice day.

Revisit to obtain GPS reading forgotten in June. Parked on verge at NY182291. Direct line up northeastern slope from perimeter path. Stone built secondary station pillar in good condition. Completed 24th November 1949 costing £16.6s.6d. 360° panorama from top. I do wish everybody would use this site respectfully and log their trig bags properly, rather than the `I was here` approach. Incomplete logs containing the likes of `FB number unlogged`, `condition unknown` etc, are not helpful and just spread out good informative logs in a `wood for the trees` fashion. Previous loggers `melch, morcambe monkey, splash, peebs, gowrie`, please put some effort into these logs - waste of web space as they stand!

A masonry pillar in very good condition with excellent views of the Skiddaw range and also across the Cumbrian plain to the Solway, Scotland and Criffel. I climbed the fell from the south, firstly crossing Wythop Moss that due to the recent dry weather was not the morass that I was expecting. From this angle the fell is akin to the side of a house and equally unremitting.

After completing a without Pillar Rock circuit of E+W 2000' summits in the burning sun on Fleetwith pike yesterday it was down to earth with driving rain and a painful hit of the plastic. This evening walk was fortunately tied in to a window in the rain and though the mist was down the trig itself was in grand shape. Parked at the end of the old copse road and took advantage of the fell having been declared access land earlier in the week.

From Wythop, bracken all the way. Skiddaw obscured by cloud. Used rope to train our new border collie Immy without success.
