Made my way through Coed Coesau Whips forest, following the main gravel path as it bends to right, then up a steep rocky track ideal for mountain bikes, which eventually brings you out onto the Ridgeway track leading you over the hill. Just before you reach a small weather station on left just off the track over wooden stile is the pillar, in fairly good condition a little damage and the top of the spider was missing. Fantastic views in the clear weather, could see over to England. Walkers have taken to artistically stacking stones along the way.

Lovely views of Cardiff and beyond, Llanishen reservoir just to the right of pillar, Penarth on the coast, Flatholm and Steepholm just visible and in the far distance is probably Weston Super Mare

The Spider
Look out for this weather station as you walk along the trail, the pillar is just off to the left, could easily be missed. Next to the building is a lovely place to sit down, and take in the amazing views of this great nations capital.

Fabulous views to coast islands and beyond today. Flush bracket and Spider in place, 1SH open, cap missing but had flowers in for a fellow walker I assume, lovely spot!

I approached from Tai-mawr farm to the southeast with plenty deep snow to contend with once again. I followed a line of pheasant feeder tanks straight up the steep slope through the trees. There was a thigh deep drift at the first fence which took quite some getting through. After that I was personally shepherded to the top of the hill by a half dozen sheep that considerably cleared a path for me most of the way to the trig. If it wasn’t for the noise of the M4 I could have imagined that I was somewhere in the depths of Mid Wales. I returned the same way I’d came, this time with a fraction of the effort.
