Parked at the farm and asked farmer's son (Fleurtations MD) who readily gave permission. Pillar is now an integral part of a stone wall, and despite being phyisically sound, is technically damaged as 2 sight holes are no longer accessible. Original centre cap retianed, lightly indented lettering; FB faces E; rear SH sealed, front below ground level. Near enough 360deg visibility, W best.

Walked up from Lochill. Met farmer in Landrover driving down. Gave me the thumbs up and when I told him I was another lunatic walking up to the trig pillar he smiled and said you're welcome. Walked up west side of wall only to find FB on opposite side. Didn't fancy jumping over as the other side was full of nettles. Had walked past a section where the wall had partially collapsed so went back down and through. Once back at pillar I had to gingerly trample down the nettles as I was wearing shorts.

Got talking to the owner of the farm who encouraged me to drive up to the pillar along the green lane. Great April weather, trig point built into the wall so must have been difficult to use.

Pillar is set in the wall, and I too did not bother climbing over the pillar to get the flush bracket - thats what cameras are for - eyes on the end of your arms. Intact and in good condition.

Went in via the farm track. No problems. Incorporated in to the wall between a grazing field and an arable field. Went in to the grazing field, which of course turned out to the be the wrong side for the flush bracket. Managed to get a photo by holding the camera over the wall. Fit young people could just have hopped over... Saw an enormous hare leaping about the field.

Loch Hill is 2 miles east of Longniddry, East Lothian. The trig pillar is incorporated into a boundary wall which forms the western edge of a strip of woods. Land on the either side of the woods is arable. This pillar can be approached unseen via open fields to the west for those who do not want to pass the farm. Although sandwiched into a wall, the trig pillar is in very good condition and still has its original OS cap with engraved lettering. The flush bracket faces ENE into the woods. Like many woodland trigs there is some moss coverage. Re-visited by GRP, 30th November 2002.

Later in 1943 this marker was computed for triangulation as tertiary station NT48/T55 in the Edinburgh block. The flush bracket was levelled for height in 1967.
