After initially fighting through 6' high bracken, we connected to quad bike (or other) track heading up the hill. That made for a much easier walk than expected. Rainy slightly when we started and becoming very heavy on the way back down. Interesting lochan beside the summit. Potentially, nice views...

Parked at visitor centre then walked around to gateway deer fence. Convenient big hole to go under and through. Then a land rover track to within 300m of the trig. Skylarks singing overhead in the sun. More great views. Also found a stags antler on the walk. A nice souvenir.

Our first full day on Arran - very wet, very windy - a theme that was to appear each morning for the next 9 days, joy! Parked at the Craft Centre carpark at Auchencar. Through the deer fence and out onto a very boggy heather moorland. A short walk of just over 1km each way, with 180m gain in elevation, but it seemed a lot further! Pillar hasn't had a fresh coat of paint this year as we found a lot had, but still quite white; generally in good condition; 3 sight holes open; original cap in place with raised lettering; FB not painted black. No doubt there are some good views from here but with the cloud down very low on the hill none existed today.

There are 17 pillar trigs on Arran. To get to this trig i parked the car at Auchencar and crossed the burn as soon as i could (bracken dead) and made my way to the top. Fantastic views.

One of those days when sunshine was suddenly replaced by strong winds and slicing rain. Beautiful light across southern Arran and across to Kintyre. Walked up from Auchencar through shoulder high bracken and then springing heather. Pillar in good condition with brass spider and centre plug still in place.
