Parked across road from pub near field entrance, hopped gate and up hill through paddock; horses disinterested in me. Pillar has reddish tinge, very exposed base and its own private moat of muddy water but otherwise in good condition; cap missing, no plug; 1 sight hole open. Extensive 360deg views.

A perfectly easy one to find, it is visible from miles away and the pub car park is a matter of yards away. However... if you are an excitable terrier and the field is full of horses, it's not worth risking frightening them. We'll try again soon...

Visited the Chequers for drinks where we had a long chat about all manner of things with two of the locals. One of the young ladies behind the bar said it would be OK for me to go into the field where the horses were kept. When I entered the field I was approached by a horse which I think would have accompanied me to the top of the hill had I encouraged it. Not able to appreciate the view from the pillar owing to low cloud all around. Probably wouldnt have visited this pub if it werent for the trig - another good reason to go trigpointing ! Looking forward to further visits, hopefully in better weather

Fortunately, just as I arrived a lady was putting her horse to grass and so she said it would be fine for me to go [pub closed at this point!]. Pillar has lost its plug but otherwise it's fine. Traces of paint. On a pronounced 'tump' and obviously a gathering spot for the horses as the base has been exposed about 18" all round. Great views on a lovely morning.

Not sure why this is called Lode Hill my O/S Explorer OL29 suggests it is Elliot Hill with no mention of Lode anywhere? Anyhow Trig on top of prominent hill with very exposed base and missing centre cap (hence the slightly damaged rating) , otherwise all present & correct. The O/S website lists the computing year as 1942 and the height a/s/l as 85.926 metres (281.91 feet). A point of note is the Chequers pub at the bottom of the hill where we stopped for dinner later in the evening and the kids has a fantastic time in a very well established pub playground.

We asked the landlord (Richard) at the pub (The Chequers) who was very amenable. He told us about the horses but I explained that they would be quite safe as Shane had already had her breakfast. Nice white painted trig, plug missing.

This is in a horsey field on top of a hill opposite a pub. The field belongs to the pub so we asked for permission as there is no way that you could access the trig without being seen. They were very friendly and helpful and made us a nice cup of tea afterwards. This is in good condition, and is painted white. Set on a concrete plinth. Missing plug.
