Parked in layby at forest entrance just S of Rough Castles. Followed a decent path all the way to pillar. At one point a sign indicated that there were some beehives nearby and to take care, but I didn't see (or hear) anything. Special mention to the very neat recent paint job. Great view from the trig.

Pleasant walk in from road to E. Forestry operations seems to have been completed for now but timber still to be extracted. Pillar has no top cap or plug; LHD side sight hole closed, other 3 open. The FB is of the 'BSM' style. Has a half decent coat of white paint. Good panorama given the filthy weather.

Visited many times before but not logged - first visit in a while and first since the timber harvesting started. As the FC don't work on a Sunday you can safely ignore the 'No Access' signs. Although the felling of a large swathe of Thrunton Woods south of Coe Crag has left the usual dispoil of brash and upturned rootballs it has opened up the views south and east as you walk up from Rough Castles.

Parked at Callaly, took PROW to access land and then free style to track on the western edge of the woods (forestery commission red track). Followed this track on a very eroded path to the ridge top. One other person seen but well in the distance. As others have said, lovely place with stunning views of Cheviot and Simonside and at last as promised by BBC some watery winter sunshine and pale blue sky.

Serene and beautiful place very early in the morning, on way home from Scotland. This was my third attempt to find a way up this hill (a Marilyn) - a doddle when you know how! First of two 'Long Crags' in Northumbria logged today, the other being S6502, near Sighty Crag. They have consecutive TP numbers, 4517 & 4518; should I have expected that when they are situated so far apart?
