ODP#2: diverted up from the ODP to SE of Bailey Pit farm, then up the track into the woods and approached trig up a well walked triggers' path (not marked on map) from SE. Continued NW to resume the ODP. Engulfed in bracken with only limited views to SW, but in relatively good condition - NW s/hole open, plastic cap, some signs of cracking about 6" down from top but I've seen a lot worse.

A muddy walk up from Monmouth along Watery Lane and Offa's Dyke Path then into King's Wood, returning via Wonastow Brake. The trig is located just off the summit of Long Hill, a HuMP, in a prominent position at side of a path, which isn't shown as a public ROW on the OS 1:25k map, but is most likely common access land. Good views south. Pillar is showing signs of deep fracturing near the top (see my 3rd photo), plastic(?) plug is intact.

The pillar is highly visible and easily accessible. I parked near Whitehill Farm to the south-west and used the bridleway then woodland track up to the pillar. The pillar is not at the highest point. In good condition but has a resin type plug. Nice views on the way up and down but restricted by trees at the pillar itself.

Followed the Offa's Dyke path to the nearby cache (The lightning tree) then onto the trig. Initally decided to take the direct route, but the bracken was over head hight, had dog rose's and nasty thorns in it, so decided to take a different route. Also the dog was having none of it so found a nice path further along the bridleway that went straight to the trig :). Nice views and a lovely walk of about 4 1/2 miles from my parking spot.

Approached from Monmouth, via footpath through Wonastow Brake. Non-existent stile meant much searching for path through brambles, nettles and dense vegetation. Paths closer to the trig had recently been driven over, so became easier. Views okay if you like fields :)
